tivo freezing

everyone on the help forum seems to think my hard-drive is shot since tivo freezes (more and more lately) that require unplugging, i got the green screen of death once already, and the video hiccups

i'm not replacing it myself, and i don't want sony to get more of my money

since it's DEFINITELY out of warranty, i might as well get an upgrade for more recording space, right?

so what places on the Internet do you guys recommend I should use to purchase a new hard-drive that they would also install for me as well?

Thanks!!!

The upgrade process is not complex for anyone who's worked inside a normal PC (replaced a drive, added a CD-ROM, etc), but you do need to be able to follow the directions and have a PC you can (temporarily) open up and use to host your Tivo drives. The docs are excellent and are at http://www.newreleasesvideo.com/hin...-to/index9.html

If you don't feel comfortable doing that, I'd be inclined to recommend the guy who wrote the excellent docs (not that I've ever met, used, or even emailed him, but his docs are ridiculously thorough, and I think that goes a long way towards recommending him)

His upgrade service doc is at:
http://www.newreleasesvideo.com/hin...adeservice.html

Again, I haven't used him (it was easy enough for me to do the upgrade myself in half an afternoon), but from the quality of his doc, I'm guessing he's a good bet if you'd like to pay someone to do it for you (nothing wrong with that, BTW).

There are plenty of upgrade shops around, although obviously, being a Brit I haven't used any of them. You'll find posts from happy customers of weaknees and Hinsdale in this Forum.

I don't know which ones take your whole TiVo, but if you get a drive, all you need to do is take the top off the TiVo, unscrew the drive bracket, unplug the old drive(s), plug in the new one, screw it down and replace the cover. Full instructions will come with the drive.
