Alias- New Episode 10/27??

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: dwells

I just noticed that the guide data for tonights (10/27) episode of Alias shows a repeat of the season premiere. However, every other listing, including the ABC website and their own promotions and commercials indicate a new episode tonight. I am just wondering if they did like last year and pulled a last minute switch because of World Series Game 7?
(Same situation with the Practice............)
Anyone know for sure?

I noticed the same thing. A friend of mine has the correct new episode guide data on his DirecTiVo though, so I'm not sure what is going on. I'm just going to record it also just in case.

New episode according to the ABC media site too (those who provide data to Tribune).

Just guessing, but I think its going to be a repeat- last year the exact same thing happened, ABC was showing promos the day of for a new episode, and then, I think, wound up not even showing Alias at all- instead showing two hours of the Practice. No big deal, really, but ABC really shouldn't so heavily promote a new episode if there is even a small chance of it being pulled.......

the abc site, http://abc.abcnews.go.com/primetime/alias/index.html and www.zap2it.com both list it as being a new episode called "the instigator."

I'm doing a dial up now to see if the listings on my standalone change.

<edit> no change to alias listing after dialup.

I can't tell you if it's going to be the new one or not, but they did feed a new ep last night on the big dish. That doesn't necessarily mean they will actually show it tonight. I have seen instances in the past where the early feed was a new episode and something happened to bump it a week. Last night's feed was at 2130 ET so the Angels were probably still down 5 runs at the time.

Oddly, during the ABC and local news here, they had NO promos for tonight's line-up...just a bunch for NYPD Blue next Tuesday.

Makes me think it WON'T be new, or they'd be promoting it...

Posted by: ronsch

I just saw a promo near the end of NFL Primetime that both Alias and The Practice are new. Of course they just said "Sunday", didn't say "tonight", so who knows. I'll try and check at 9:00 and see.

Rerun.

Posted by: ronsch

Yup, rerun of Season Premiere. Looks like I'm a week up. Good thing since I'll be out of town next weekend.

Very interesting - I wonder if they did this because of the 7th game of the WS. The WS has been drawing horrible numbers - but its a big enough event to cause something like this.

Or perhaps they felt bad about this:

Probably because it is the 7th game of the WS and even though it's ratings haven't been spectacular, Alias's haven't been very good either.

My SA has new episode info, but it's the rerun. Might be worth keeping an eye on this SP, as it may try to skip next weeks recording due to 28 day rule, if the guide data for next week changes.

Posted by: Rob Helmerichs

My DirecTiVo had the rerun info...seems like it depends on the local station's reporting.

*GRUMBLE* My roommate and I had just sat down to watch it and hopefully settle a few questions we had when the went and reran the pilot. *GRUMBLE* I mean who does that <Whoknows55 walks away muttering>

This "problem" was due to the World Series causing ABC to shift it's programming.

As things currently stand, the DirecTV data has next week's episode being "Salvation." If it changes back to being "The Indicator" -- the episode that many people's Tivos did record this week even though it wasn't really what aired -- then the 28-day rule is going to screw up and there will be no recording next week.

This is one of those pain-in-the-a** situation where you have to monitor the thing because you can't -- right now -- fix it as far as I know.

You can "fix" it by selecting a manual recording for it, right?

Mine is set to record next week, but the data is for the episode that would have aired. So I'll probably delete it and then put in a manual recording for it.

What I find particularly annoying about this is the reason that displays in the recording history entries for the canceled recordings. (I have DirecTiVo so it got the updated episode info and canceled Alias and The Practice). It says that they were canceled because "someone in my household modified the SP or ARWL that originally requested it." It's confusing enough wondering about ABC changing their minds at the last minute, but even more with TiVo providing inaccurate explanations for canceled recordings.

I have a vague recollection of this situation "self-correcting" last year when this happened. I believe a similar thing happened once with Malcolm in the Middle. I know the 28-day rule kicked in initially after the following week's info was updated, but I seem to remember something about it fixing itself later, maybe TiVo did something to fake out the 28-day rule. Or maybe my memory just sucks. I'm gonna wait until Sunday before I do anything manually, just to see what happens.

One little trick you can use in these situations is don't actually cancel the recording; have TiVo record something else in its place. That way, the 28-day rule won't apply.

Posted by: grecorj

Except TiVo is the one who cancelled it for me. By the time I noticed it, the new episode was already in the Recording History "won't record" trash heap.

Posted by: Rob Helmerichs

That's probably just because the correct data got through in time. If it doesn't think it recorded the episode, and you didn't explicitly cancel it, it should record properly when it shows up again.

(Which doesn't mean you shouldn't check Upcoming Episodes just to be sure!)

I just created an auto-record wishlist (set up to get all episodes) for ALIAS INDICATOR, which should grab the episode (even though my TiVo thinks it already recorded it due to bad guide data.)

Posted by: rasheed

I didn't get any new data in time to know about the rerun of Alias (Practice also was a rerun or rather an Angels celeberation special), and there was no other independent confirmation.

You will need to 'Record this Episode Also' when the data is revised because the TiVo thinks you already got it.

I think this also happen during one of the award shows where ABC decided to not show a new episode. It always is a poor last minute decision.

If you set up a wishlist like I described (auto-record keyword wishlist, record all including duplicates, for ALIAS INDICATOR) you wouldn't have to remember to do the record-also thing.

Does anyone know if they're just pushing the schedule back a week? My guide data still shows the same episode for this coming Sunday as it did before -- I was under the impression that "The Indicator" would air instead.

It's my understanding that that's what they are doing but as you say, the guide data hasn't changed to reflect that yet.

It changed on my DTiVo as of last night -- new episode from 10/27 is going to be on 11/3 and 11/3 episode has been bumped to 11/10.

Posted by: Rob Helmerichs

My data is correct, and has been for at least a couple of days, and it is recording properly...but then, it knew that last week's was a rerun.

Posted by: ronsch

Perhaps my SA will be updated after todays call.

Edit: Interestingly enough I just checked zap2it and it hasn't been updated yet.

Posted by: rasheed

It will probably get updated on Friday or Saturday's call. It usually takes about three days after a change is realized by TMS to get the data updated to all of the TiVos.

The single episode WL will work too, I don't disagree.

Posted by: coldtoes

My data has just been updated to indicate that "The Indicator" is now this Sunday's episode, so the change is proliferating to our TiVos. (I went with the low-tech "record this episode also" method in my SP, although the ARWL was a good suggestion.)

Posted by: Otto

The data is now correct in my standalone box, and yes, it wasn't scheduled to record. I selected just "Record this episode also" as well, simplest and no need for complexity.

All Alias fans might be well advised to check the Upcoming Episodes of Alias to be certain it's scheduled to record on Sunday.

Posted by: ronsch

It's correct on my SA as well and due to the 28-day rule my Tivo substituted Macolm in the Middle, which is perfect since I already have the early feed of "Indicator" from last week and I won't be in town this weekend to check for the early feed of Malcolm.

So does the 28-day rule apply if you set the season pass to ALL?

Posted by: bryanh

Hello all,

It's been a long time since I posted on the boards. It seems I never thought to check the Alias/practice issue this weekend. Because of this I missed both shows. Is there anyone willing to put them on a video tape and mail it to me (I would be willing to PayPal you a handling fee).

If so - please PM me.

Thanks
Bryan

Nope. That's the point of the "All incuding duplicates" option.
