Firefly: Fox orders 3 more scripts
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Story available at The Futon Critic.
Decision on remainder of season to come within 2-3 weeks.
Same for "John Doe" and "Fastlane".

That's better than nothing, I guess.

3 doesn't sound like they have much faith in it at all... Here's hoping they order the rest of the season.

Wow, 3 whole eps?
Way to clearly almost make somewhat of a statement, Fox!

Showing just a bit more patience than they showed with Girls Club (not that I was a fan, but that was a quick hook).
Considering that Girls Club is gone, and they have holes in the schedule anyway, they ought to repurpose Firefly too and give it additional airings to build up the audience a bit.

3's better than none. Joss's stuff always gets better as it goes along, so imo, there's hope. :)

And considering that they could have just suspended production until the decision was made, this is at least a little promising. They obviously have at least some interest in keeping it going.

I've been noticing a lot of Firefly promos during the commercial breaks, so hopefully FOX is committed to a full first season....

I really like the show. I dig the mix of sci-fi and western. With the lack of good sci-fi on TV, I hope this continues.

The article says they ordered 3 more scripts, not that there are only 3 more episodes. The question is how many episodes are already in the can?
I seem to recall reading somewhere that when networks order partial seasons, it's usually 9 episodes. So if this past show was #6 (or was it #5?) then I assume that they already have 3 more shows done. Thus putting together 3 more scripts, could actually mean 6 more episodes.
If you look at a calendar, that fits. Assuming no episode the Friday after thanksgiving (seems networks always have some crap family movie the day after the holiday), 6 more episodes gets the show to the Friday before Christmas. At that point if Fox gives it the ax, they could then start their mid-season replacement right after the holidays.
Of course, all of this is just a guess..so really who knows! :D

A normal partial order is either 6 episodes or 11. I read somewhere that Fox's initial order for Firefly was 11. The extra 3 scripts would bring them up to 14, or maybe 16 if they're not counting the reworking of the original 2-hour pilot.

I wouldn't read much into it, expecially if they only ordered 3 more episodes of 2 other shows (John Doe, and Fast Lane)

I saw Firefly for the first time so excuse my ignorance, but I suppose that by the tone of this thread... the ratings are not that good.

A support site is now up for people who want to show Fox how much they like this show. Don't let them cancel it like they did "Space, Above and Beyond" They ended that one with a cliff-hanger, I'm still P.O.ed

Let me put it this way: America's Funniest Home Videos and Providence (which is cancelled) both whomped it a few weeks ago.
Why Fox thinks Friday is "sci-fi" night is beyond me. Except for the X-Files, when's the last time a network sci-fi show took off on Friday night?

For the people that like this show, I hope they don't cancel it.
But... I watched the first episode of this show and hated the sci-fi/western mix. I wouldn't be surprised if it was cancelled.
I also watched a couple episodes of John Doe and 1 episode of Fastlane. Didn't like those shows either.
I think the creative think tank has run dry.

Stargate SG1? SHO/SCIFI
Farscape? SCIFI

But note that Showtime decided Stargate wasn't drawing enough to be worthwhile, and Sci-Fi thought the same for Farscape.
Which makes one wonder why these people keep trying to fill Friday night with science fiction? Aside from the annoying practice of putting like shows opposite each other, thus diluting the potential audience, you'd think they'd want to put them on nights that draw more of their target audience.

They figure the sci-fi nerds aren't going out on Friday nights!

My $.02...I don't hate the show, but nothing about it sets me on fire either, and sometimes I find the old west stuff downright annoying. John Doe gets about the same reaction from me. I like them enough to continue to watch them with mild interest as long as they're on, but I can't honestly say I'd miss Firefly terribly if it went away.
