Please recommend a new show

I have just done a good emptying of my season passes and wishlist, and I am looking for some new shows to try out. Would anyone like to recommend a show or shows to try that isn't on any of the "big six" networks.
Thanks.

Maybe it would help if you give us some shows that you have liked in the past (ie sit-coms, courtroom dramas, action, etc). Here is a recent thread about people's top season pass picks.

I just read about a new website that recommends shows for you....

Has anyone tried this site yet?

BBCA - Coupling, only about 8 new shows per season, but worth a season pass.

Do Over on the WB, on Thursday nights. IMHO, best new show of the season.

I was in the beta for it quite a while back, but didnt like it and eventually forgot the password so havent been back. I may pop back in over there and see how things have progressed.

I did the beta. It was very cumbersome to set up. I never bothered configuring it all the way, too time consuming with too many repetitive questions.
I could see that it would be good, for those who don't have TiVo and use the thumbs up/down. It does the same thing - you tell it what you like and it'll recommend shows based on your tastes. Maybe since they beta they've improved it.
However, I found it not necessary for us TiVo owners.

TiVo's suggestions aren't cutting it for ya?

I like both Do Over and Boomtown. Give us some hints what you like.
Isn't that the beauty of Tivo. You aren't held hostage by the networks any more!

Boomtown is a good one, and Robbery homicide division is also pretty good.

I became a '24' fan last year. This seasons premiere was last week, but it will repeat Monday night on Fox.
The show normally airs Tuesday nights.

Yup. Went through a lengthy set up and when I was done it recommended...all the shows I had rated. Hmmm. Not quite what I was expecting. Haven't stuck with it (as you rate more stuff, it is supposed to "learn").

Definitely Firefly... Good show!

Cracker if you live in the USA and have the BBC America channel.
This is an excellent British crime drama. There was an American version a few years ago, but it was too intelligent to find its audience right away and the network pulled it too soon. I was very disappointed and a quick search on the net turned me on to the Britsh version.

MailCall on The History Channel.... But then I am a military buff.

Monk, Firefly, and if you haven't seen "trigger happy tv" on comedy central yet, you gotta check it out.

Without a Trace on CBS - our favorite new show this season

If you are looking for a non-network show, and looking for
a laugh, try "Oblivious" on TNN (usually on Sunday Night).....
Its a hidden camera/game show mix- don't let that scare you
away- its one of the funniest shows on television......

I've just recently discovered The Oblongs on Cartoon Network through Tivo's suggestions... It's similar to the Simpsons.

I really like Dinner for Five and America's Test Kitchen. Those were great suggestions that I probably would not have found otherwise.
Does anyone have any other suggestions for shows not on the top four networks?

Iron Chef
The Isaac Mizrahi Show
Rough Science
Scientific American Frontiers
Rocket Power

Are you watching Buffy? Angel? Firefly?
(yes, yes..I am Joss's bitch :) )

If you haven't caught the initial run earlier this year, now is a good time to catch up on The Shield. FX runs the show regularly and it's easy to catch a showing since it appears in various time slots.
It's honestly one of the best cop dramas I've seen in a while.

If you like cooking shows, Good Eats with Alton Brown and Emeril - Live

Assuming you are in America, try Cracker on BBC America. This is a great British crime drama from the 1990s about a police psycologist with a gift for getting suspects to talk by getting them to identify with his own troubled emotions. There was briefly an American version in 1997, but it was cancelled because intelligent shows take too long to build the ratings that the big networks demand.

I am personally still trying to figure out how to catch up on on Angel epsisodes. I just started watching Buffy last year but thinks to FX's 2 show a day runs I was able to catch up pretty easily.
I still have never seen an angel episode. :(

I like The Guardian, Tuesdays 9 pm, CBS. Simon Baker and Dabney Coleman are wonderful as son and father lawyers trying to reach out to each other after years of estrangement. None of the characters are perfect, and they struggle with their flaws. I wouldn't miss it!
