Sopranos #8 11/3

Does anyone else think they know all they need to know about Ralphie?
Posted by: Cletus
Yikes!
There's one piece of information missing though...

That new chick is something else. Not the best looking but has quite the sex appeal.

I thought Sopranos #8 11\3 was little boring.

Next week looks like some much needed action.

Seems to me that when Tony gets bored, he's not at his best...

His home theater kicked ass. Loved the Dark Side of the Moon tie-in :)

The show is trying to do too much. It's trying to break new ground, but what it's doing is becoming quite boring. The writers are piling on the messages like these thugs are products of their enviornment and their evil causes problems with family/relationships. I'm sure the writers think it quite clever that when Tony is bored and has nothing to do... the show refects that tone.
The Sopranos is still a great show, but it's like a politician who tries to fine tune the economy or a top baseball pitcher who attempts to add an extra pitch. Forget the artsy stuff (or at least make it only a piece of the show) and let Tony Soprano be Tony Soprano.

I'm not doing anything but enjoying the series and I think this year is finally getting better. Paulie is back and things are picking up.
Posted by: NatasNJ
The best plot line the could EVER persue is Furio trying to knock off Tony to get Carmella. How great would that be?
Posted by: Graymalkin
They should change the name of the series to (ta-da) Soapranos. :)
Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)
So does Tony suspect Carmella of swiping the swag in the bird seed? He looks like he does, but then he asked AJ about the pool guy.
I agree that Valentina La Paz (great name) is hot hot hot! (I'm 90% certain that the actress playing her is Leslie Bega -- can anyone confirm that for me?)
Has anybody noticed that Tony married a blonde but almost always picks brunettes for his goomars?

Thought the episode was boring for the most part. Just like all but one other episode this season. Every week we make the same comment, "Well, it looks like next week there is going to be some action." This season had better end awesome. I might not waste my time on it next year.
Posted by: jerobi
I think the best line was from Silvio in regards to Ralphie's regard for women. Something to the effect of "Remember, T, he killed one just for...well, I forget what for, actually."
I'm psyched for next week, but I have a nagging doubt about the trend of dropped storylines eating up our expectations.
In a perfect world where they followed plot lines with some semblence of continuity, next week we should see our first casualty of the season: Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)
Valentina gets wacked by Tony, who decides it is the only way to protect Ralphie's image in the organization.

I was thinking about that but what would it get him? Then Sil and Chris would have to kill him.

The only problem with it is that we know how it would end. Tony can't die! There is still at least one more season.
Posted by: NatasNJ
The new season could be with Furio heading the Soprano household. That would be classic..
Even a failed attempt on Tony's life could throw some major twists. Like Ralphie & Christopher going after Furio after the failed attempt.. Many good things..

Jeez, you are right. I guess I was thinking too black and white. The last time someone tried to take Tony out (carjacking) it was awesome.
Now I hope they do have Furio try to take him out. I just hope they wouldn't leave it like the Pine Barrens.
What happened to the Russian?!?!?!

Another disappointing episode. Yet again I get to look to next week and hope it is as good as the preview made it look. It wont be, but I can always hope.

Can't say - this is supposed to be a PG-13 forum, right? :D

You mean "The Wall", or did I miss something you are referring to?
Posted by: Cletus
The Wall? No way, dude! That was The Dark Side of the Moon, more specifically the last piece of it, "Eclipse". Right after the episode ended I pulled the CD and listened to the whole album, first time in 2 years. Awesome stuff.
You may have noticed Hyde from the '70s Show sometimes wears a Tshirt with the official album logo.

I missed the DSOTM tie-in too,
Great album, I didn't have any spooky Halloween music, so I settled for listening to that while giving out candy.

yep can you imagine being in High School and seeing some thugs chase your principal down the hall?

Yeah it was Dark side, but Tony was singing another brick in the wall in the shower...
I see a failed assassination on Tony...we are building a list of suspects...Carmella, Furio, Ralphie, Janice, Valentina, Paulie, Silvio, the Alderman...all have a motive to try to whack Tony. We know he won't die, but he will seek vengence...

True, but later in the show T tried to sing The Wall Part 1 in the shower. I think.

They have plenty of opportunity for some action, Dr Melfi (I think thats her name) could ask Tony to whack the rapist. The Russian that Paulie and Chris tried to whack in the woods could show up and cause some excitement.
They did not even show us what happened to the French guy that Furio took care of, the one that messed over Artie.
Plenty of opportunity but no action.

Uh, maybe I am looking too close at the shadows...
But, maybe, Tony's new gohmar (or however its spelled) is a plant for the FBI? She isn't an agent, but the timing is just too...
She hooks up with Ralphie, then dumps him when she has a shot at the big guy...
Posted by: sublime75
Even though they are trying to insinuate that something will happen between Furio and Tony I don't think this will happen. I think that Christopher drug problem has more of a chance of hurting Tony than Furio.
Furio is a no no-nonsense person I don't think he will go against the Don.
The Pine Barrens, Directed by Steve Buscemi, was the funniest episode to date.
Posted by: Rob Helmerichs
I'm wondering if the problem won't go the other way...Furio has worked hard to remain loyal, but just the looks he's been giving could get him into fatal trouble if Tony should notice!

But would a real FBI agent do what they did with Ralphie? That kind of stretches the boundries of dedication!

It all depends on how much you love your job. :D

Just be sure to say "no" if you're ever eating dinner with Ralphie and he asks you if you'd like some fresh grated cheese on your pasta. :D

I enjoyed this episode, but I wish they would start to tie up some story lines.
I loved the look on Paulie's face as the Nursing Home director told him about his mom being a "tattle-tale" and not putting in her teeth. Classic! :D
"rub it raw with a cheese grater"   Too Much Information!

Personally I liked the exchange of looks between Tony and his wife at the end. Both knew what the other did but kept quiet since they knew the other was aware of this too.
It looks like things are going down the gutter between Pauly and Tony. I wonder where that is going to lead?
Posted by: dschwab
Yes, Valentina La Paz is played by Leslie Bega. There was an article in USA Today on Monday about her and I guess she was in the 80's TV show "Head of the Class", which I used to watch when I was young but can't remember who she was. I don't see anything else that's notable in her IMDB profile. The article also revealed...
Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)
...that she will be in 3 more episodes this season and hinted that she could be back next season.

Yes, that last scene was the greatest! Both of them playing it cool, while trying to get information.

Something I read just before the season started:
Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)
According to the actor who plays him, Ralphie makes it until at least episode 11 I believe. This was in the TV Guide cover story on The Sopranos I believe...

Watched the latest episode last night. I think the HBO/Sopranos $25 rebate is because they watched all of the episodes and realized they needed to give us some money back. This season makes me look that much more forward to The Shield season premiere in Jan and also the premiere of Oz.
The Sopranos might as well be on network TV. It's so watered down now. Hohum.

I'd like to see the scene with Tony and LaPaz on network TV! Or even the descriptions of Ralphie's sexual predilictions. It wouldn't happen... not even on FOX :p
Nope, the content is not watered down. What's watered down is the writing and plot interest level. [sigh]

Besides the nippage shot, NYPD Blue shows many similar scenes with butt shots and side view breast shots now. Maybe not quite as graphic but nothing that would add or subtract to the quality of the current show.
I'll give you the descriptions of Ralphie's sexual habits though. Not gonna crack into the family lineup between Friends and Scrubs, that's for sure.
Isn't writing and plot interest level related to content? I mean geez it's a mob series and noone has been whacked in while, not counting the assumption of Furio with the French guy.
Regardless it's just a disappointing season from the first episode through the latest. If they would just tie up a loose end every episode with a bit of violence I wouldn't be complaining.

Yes, of course it is. My point was that the show can still have bad language, scenes with nudity and violence and still be uninteresting. What made The Sopranos a great show wasn't just that we saw people get the **** beat out of them. The context of the situations was what made it interesting (that, and the superior acting and dialog).
If they were to simply fill the remaining episodes with violence and sex, it wouldn't save this season. But if they tie together the various story-lines in a reasonable and coherent fashion and throw in some sex and violence, then I'll be happy :)

Double the sex for me please.. :)

Last weeks episode was worst of entire 4 seasons, they are trying too hard to get everyones character developed. This just dilutes the core storyline and wastes too much time for a show with limited episodes especially after a 18 month hiatus. The storylines are no longer filled with tension and there is no "I can't wait till next weeks episode" that used to exist. Oz still has that tension and compelling reason to tune in next week.
My prediction and fear at this late game is that nothing important will occur until final episode and they will leave us with the "Grandaddy of all Cliffhangers" for about 2 years.
Oh well, its not HBO its just Television
