Turbonet daily call with 2.5?

Hi! I'm wondering if anybody can tell me -- is it possible to get the daily call to go out over a turbonet card under 2.5 in a Directivo?

My modem died some time ago (before I got 3.0), and I was thinking that it would be cheaper / easier to just install a turbonet card, but I'm not sure if its possible to get it to make the daily calls over the turbonet to get 3.0 installed.... I understand it works fine in 3.0, but don't know about prior.

thanks,
dave.

Yes, you can use the Turbonet to make the daily call with 2.5, but you would need to install the Turbonet software on the TiVo - which is somewhat complicated if you haven't done that type of thing before.

Better bet - find a friend with the same model TiVo, put your drive in that TiVo, dial it in and get 3.0. Then take it back to yours, and your Turbonet will work with only the dialing string modification.

Excellent -- I don't mind the linux hacking part of it -- do that pretty much every day :-). I just didn't want to have to fix the modem just to get 3.0.

Ok, so stupid question time -- I got the Turbonet card, and it's installed, so now how do I make the daily call? Is it the same as under V3, just set the dial prefix to ,#401 ? Or is there something else to do under 2.5 / directivo?

thanks,
dave.

Um, there isn't 3.x for Dtivos yet? Or did I miss another SW upgrade?

If you use the Turbonet install CD, it will set itself up to do the calls to TiVo over the ethernet by default. Calls to DirecTV will still be via phone, however.

Hmmm.... Next question, if you please. I pulled the drive and did the re-flash (it's a directivo), put it back in the tivo, and let it go through it's boot-glitch-boot cycle. I then shut it down and put the drive back in my PC. When I try to run nic_install, it fails with "Unable to access mfs", even though it correctly identified my drive as hdc (2nd master). If I run nic_install with --debug, it says: Load super: CRC mismatch 0xb5434e6a 0x400000000 . I can mount /dev/hdc7 (active root) and poke around, for example, so I am pretty sure the disk is being accessed correctly.

Any ideas welcome... Guess I could copy the components into place by hand, but that seems risky.

thanks,
dave.
