...without stringing a wire across the house?
The unit is going nowhere near a phone jack. What alternatives (e.g., wireless) are there?
Thanks...looking forward to connecting it tonite ;)

Hey --

I use those phone jack extenders that plug into and convert any A/C outlet into a phone jack. In addition to making things easy to connect and working perfectly (haven't had a single problem in my year's use of them), they also protect your unit's modem from power surges.

Picked mine up at Big Lots for a song. They're made by GE, but I'm sure there are plenty of others floating around. Here are some RCA units:

I have used one of these:

I got it primarily for the surge protection. If you get one, make sure it is designed for a modem rather than just phone.

Make sure you get a MODEM jack extender, rather than a phone jack extender.

i tried the wireless modem jack but found the call would often get dropped and resorted to the 75ft phone cord.

Wireless modem jack works great here. The regular wireless phone jack didn't work at all.

Using Ethernet to connect to a home network with a broadband connection is also an option for some people. Of course, it may or may not be better than stringing phone wire, depending upon where things are in your home. For Series 2 units, a USB-to-Ethernet adapter will do the job nicely. You'll need 3.0 or later software to get it to work easily.

Search eBay for the "RCA930 wireless TiVo" (Title and Description)

Do not buy the model RCA926, it's slower and problems also have been reported. The RCA 930s ahould be less than $40 shipped.

I'm quite happy with the one I bought for $36.66 from the-LA-guy (tonyhe@earthlink.net). See ebay item

After the wireless modem jack is set up, try it with a regular phone. If it's noisy, the modem is likely to have problems with it.

If I have two TiVos near each other, can I split one jack for both?

Posted by: srs5694

Sure, you can split a line for use by two TiVos.

Thanks all for the responses...

I ordered the Phonex PX-441 Wireless Web Jack System Caller ID Compatible from buy.com for around $45, should be here in a couple of days. I already tripped on the dangling phone line twice on the first day...25' just doesn't quite make it...
