Birds of Prey-Sins of the Mother (spoilers)

Dinah's mother, the Black Canary arrives in Gotham.
Sonic scream appears to be included.
Please let there be fishnet stockings as well......

Sorry, no fishnet stockings.
This isn't directly related to this episode per se, but if they're going to claim that Dinah grew up in a small town in Missouri, as they did in one of the first couple of episodes, they need to stop giving Rachel Skarsten dialogue that includes the words "out" or "about." She tends to, uh, betray her Canadian heritage. :)
I saw an interview with Martin Short recently where he said that on one of the short-run sitcoms he did in the late '70s, they eventually went through his scripts and changed all his "abouts" to "concerning."

I deal with our Canadian division fairly often so I don't notice it much :D
Damn, no fishnets but a solid episode. I was surprise that Jesse was Hawk's son though.
BOP does seem to be improving with each episode.
Question, who's Dinah's father? Larry Lance? Oliver Queen?

I agree, great episode... I'm glad blonde chick has more powers, the touch telepath thing is kind of weak.
on jesse being hawks son what's that "a boat", eh?

Having read The Dark Knight Returns (and the recent sequel), we see a Bruce Wayne that has heavily aged, still fighting crime into his octagenarian years. With BoP TV show, we see Batman has left town relatively young, and now we're told Black Canary had a child, retired, and looks not a year past thirtysomething. That's a little hard to believe. And the whole Huntress schtick is getting w-a-y old (I invented working alone.). Maybe your dad did, but not you. And why wouldn't Oracle call Huntress by her real name, when alone in the clocktower? Even Batman called Robin "Dick" or "Jason" or "Tim" while at home. Just some easy gripes, I guess.

I'm not well versed in the Batman canon, but I thought the episode was one of the best they've done yet. I'm still not sure if I like the show or not, but it's kept me intrigued enough to keep watching, so that's a good sign :)
Canary did seem way too young... But, I guess they just wanted to bring in someone else for us to ogle. :)

Lori Loughlin is 38, and Rachel Skarsten is 17, so that actually works out pretty well.
And Cancermatt, in case you haven't noticed, this isn't the DC Comics universe! Things are different here...deal with it! :D

I liked the Sonic Scream effects and that Black Canary's 'end' was so off-screen that we're likely to see her again.

I thought this was a very good episode. I think the people who dont read the comics may seem to like the show a little more. My brother is an avid comic collector/reader and he always points out differences in the storylines. When you dont have anything to compare it with the show seems pretty strong.
Lori Loughlin is looking pretty good as a blonde, havnt seen much of her since her Full House days. Hopefully we'll see her again.

Thanks, brett, I was trying to figure out where I had seen her before.
Not a bad episode. Definately better than the "Meta of the week show" (although, I guess you could claim that Canary was this weeks meta). I liked that they were willing to introduce another hero. Maybe we'll see more...

Well I'm just glad they introduced another villian. Everything up to now has been QuinnQuinnQuinn; it's good to see that there's at least one real organized crime group that's stepped in to fill the void left by her precious Mr. J.
However, I do think that show is getting too incestuous now. Is there anyone in New Gotham who's not the offspring of some super-hero/villian? Why couldn't Jesse(?) be just a cop, and not tied to the, err, meta-world? The show needs someone normal to ground the other characters.

How is he tied to the meta world? Hawk isn't a meta is he?

I was hoping Hawk was half of Hawk and Dove.

I'm glad I don't know any of the comic lore. I like the show overall, but if I was picking apart details I probably wouldn't.
I thought Lori Loughlin's acting was horrible in a couple of spots, although I didn't really notice it later on. So either she got warmed up as they filmed (assuming her scenes were shot essentially in order), or I just didn't notice.
I also didn't like the special effect of the sonic scream. It just looked stupid to me, and I didn't understand why they showed her "sucking in" the power before blasting it back out.
I also agree that Jesse shouldn't have been related to the crime boss. Do any of you comic book fans know of any heroes/villains that are Black females? Because Jesse's either adopted or his mom's Black. And with all the ties between everyone, I wouldn't be surprised at all if the writers made his mom someone significant from the comics, too.
All in all, though, I did basically enjoy the episode. I'm really glad I hadn't read the TiVo description or this thread first, though. I wasn't expecting Black Canary to be Dinah's mom, so that was a nice surprise.

Dan: Even if you're right about Jesse's mother being somebody from the comics, it doesn't mean she has to be somebody who is black in the comics.
Remember: THIS IS NOT THE COMIC BOOK WORLD! Things are different here!

Why am I reminded of Black Vulcan? ("I wanted to be called SuperVolt!") :D
Anyway, if you can get over the cheesy dialog, terrible plot, and the bad acting, then it's not bad so far. Basically this show is just turning out to be "Land of the Hot Chicks Doing Hot Kickass Things".
JMO, of course.

The dialog is the worst part. I really want to like this show, and I keep hoping they'll find their groove, even if it's a strange or campy one.
So far it's just one step away from Mutant X territory. If only they would stop calling each other "Huntress" and "Oracle", I'd still have hope.
