Anyone watch the Journeys with George Documentry that is now airing on HBO? It is about the 2000 campaign through the eyes of the Bush press core. More exactly through the eyes of one person in the press core. I thought it was well done, and very interesting, and even funny at times. Especially considering all the footage is from a Sony mini-dv cam.

I loved it! Very good documentary, I highly recommend anybody watch it. You can even leave politics out of it. Find out what it's like to be on the press tour.

My brother in law wrote for the LA times and travelled with Nixon. I bet he didn't have near as much fun. :)

I thought it was great. Alexandra Pelosi has a very funky Jenine Garofolo quality about her. It looks like her mother may be the next minority leader of the House.

Also, I've read so much about how in private GWB is a charismatic, funny, affable guy. I'm glad I got to see it.

Carl Rove said that documentary is the one single biggest asset Bush has to get reelected. I think it's true...Bush is a pretty funny guy to be around evidently...I liked his personality more than I thought I would....

It's funny that the White House first tried to suppress this film, saying that it was never meant to be shown in public, and was all off the record, etc., but then they realized 1) that this would become "The Film So Dangerous that the White House doesn't want you to see it" and 2) It actually casts GWB in a good light.

I don't know that it is such a good thing for any candidate. It shows pretty well how much the campaigns manipulate the press. Thats the final message of the Film (IMO). With Bush it does show his individuality which may be the good side effect.

Through the whole thing I was trying to figure out what Alexandra's view of Bush was, at least as a person. Because obviously she didn't agree with his politics. I think she was torn between liking him and hating him because of the manipulation. Or at least during the campaign she liked him, and afterwords, and after some reflection, the manipulation set in..

I thought it didn't premier until Saturday...guess not. It looks interesting. I caught some "making of" bits on that in between program on HBO, The Buzz. GW seemed real playful.

I can't recall an episode of America Undercover that I didn't enjoy (even those Hooker at the Point ones).

Well, lets see if I can say this without spoiling anything....

towards the end something happens to the narrator that causes her to not be well favored by others. GW says something to her about this, and I thought that really said something about his character. He could have done the opposite of what he did, and instead let her know that he wasn't like others.

(Her "life lesson" totally blew over the fact that he just showed how worthy he was of her vote...)

Anyway- it was good to see that he IS the same man behind the scenes. He is not putting on an act, he is smarter than his critics give him credit for.

That said, I think he has "grown" to be "presidential" in much larger ways since Sept.11, a real understanding of the chair he sits in. I think with Karen Hughes leaving he relies less on handlers now. (Note the unscripted press conference today).

Whether someone agrees with the man or not, he is genuine about what he believes in.

I agree that one of the most interesting developments post-production of this show is that her mother is going to be the next minority leader.

I found the FT reporter had some pretty insightful stuff to say. I did find it funny that Bush tried to find out who Alexandra voted for in the Nov election, but she kept asking different questions, and he just gave up on that issue.

I caught this documentary the other night while traveling in New Orleans... I thought it was great. You could see Alexandra "wanting" to be a good liberal and hate bush, but in the end she's basically won over. I think it showed the shallowness of the press, mostly.
