John Doe: Mind Games (This Week Spoilers and Speculation for Next)

I'm really sorry to say this but that mother creeped me out. She seemed like the worst parent ever. Sure bring your kid along to your first meeting of a unknown man who might be his sperm donor. I mean do sperm donors even want to play father roles? Seems to me to that is a big "if". Another thing is if all those nerds tried to move into my apartment and make me sleep on the floor I'd send them all to the Four Seasons. It's not like John Doe (or even that brain surgeon) should be hurting for money.

So what about next week. Is that lady going to be the next "smoking man". I noticed on the guide data they called her "yellow teeth". Sure sounds like a hugely unispired rip off. Sounds like next week will reveal alot though (maybe even his name).

PS I really love his car :D

I didn't understand what that DNA was at the beginning, that the mother and kid used to track Doe down.

Didn't they say the DNA matched. They got DNA from the donor from a nurse at the clinic. They matched it with DNA that John Doe had posted of himself on some national database. Thy never did explain why the clinic would give her a copy of his DNA if he wasn't one of the donors. And wouldn't DNA from father and son be simular but not indentical.

Strange.

On the other hand, I thought the surviving Ottos were a hoot, and I hope they become semi-regular Scoobies.

I was wracking my brain about the "real" father character and what I had seen him on before. FInally figured out he was Greg's lawyer friend on Darma and Greg. Seems to have gained some weight :)

I liked them and hope they stick around too. I always adore Alannah Ubach.

And where was the mother after that first scene? We barely saw her. It's odd enough to bring your kid to that first meeting, as Tivo Lance said, but then she just let him go off with these total strangers to hang out?

Even so, I enjoy this show, and I'm looking forward to next week. Grace Zabriskie sort of creeps me out. ;)

Yeah, I liked them too, and a thought came to my mind....the Lone Gunmen...

Could be John Doe's version of the X-Files trio....which would be cool.

I also thought Lone Gunmen. I'm just not convinced the way the story line is going. It's like they're rushing things... almost like it's The Pretender for people with Attention Deficit Disorder. Got to rush it to keep 'em interested.

Yeah, this week's episode was a mess. Where did the mother go? At the end of the show, it's John Doe that introduces the kid to his dad. Seems to me that the mother should have been the one making the introduction.

And why wasn't the female Otto member considered to be a 'parent'? If they really were making a 'perfect child' by somehow crossing up DNA from donors, wouldn't all of them be 'parents' anyway? The resolution of the story was that one person was the dad. That's not a special thing... just regular old sperm-donation. Not worthy of a special 'otto' program. It's very confusing.

And why exactly were the brains being taken anyway? What the heck good does it do to take the brain of a genius DNA donor? If they never explain this I'll be very disappointed.

So is John Doe really William or not? I'm confused about that point too.

J :(

I was disappointed with the show. Basically, it was a mish-mash from the premise all the way to the conclusion. I'm also having problems with the writers seeming inability to differentiate between intelligence and knowledge. John Doe was supposed to be an amnesiac with knowledge of everything but himself. But, it turns out that he is (mostly) highly intelligent, too. Now, they've introduced these high IQ types who all seem to be chock full of vast reams of trivial knowledge. Intelligence and knowledge are totally separate things.

Anybody else notice that at the very beginning of this episode, they were trying to pass off Canadian football as American football? It wouldn't have been so obvious if there hadn't been the score display in the upper left-hand corner with the logo of Canadian sports network TSN, plus the team abbreviations "SSK" and "TOR."

Was surprised no one mentioned this:

--A bunch of high IQ guys donate sperm to make a smart baby with a "normal" woman.

--Son goes on quest to find parents.

--Various donors are "not" the father, but did donate towards creating that child.

This was the plot of "Twins" with Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger. While the John Doe episode wasn't a clone of the movie, that was the first thing I thought when they introduced the Otto Group.

Hmm.. Maybe the mother didn't show up later in the episode since she was missing in Twins. The Doe writers just got a little confused when they were borrowing plot tidbits.

Well, hell, I liked it. :D

The timing of the story didn't make sense to me. They never really mentioned WHY the mother and son were looking for the father, did they? The same week that they come across John Doe in their search, a murdering donor starts killing off the other? I have to only hope that this was involved in John Doe's past a bit more than it appears on the surface. The next week's preview isn't all that exciting as there have been a few bits such as that already in the series without any apparent impact as of yet. Seems to be a lot riding on next week's show - I hope its no disappointment.

BTW, the harley riding father is Joel Murray of the Murray Brothers (as in Bill, etc.)

I'm probably just grumpy since I watched it on a hotel room TV, which meant I had to sit through 20mins of commericials scattered all throughout the show. How do people put up with these things?
