Stargate Season 7

Two recent stories: Stargate has officially been renewed for a seventh season, and Daniel Jackson (Michael Shanks) will be returning as a regular cast member. (I guess his year of unemployment made him reconsider his moral objections to the show.)

I heard about S-7, but I haven't heard about Shanks reasons for leaving. What objections did he have?

EDIT: I just read the links. I wonder if they plan to ditch Carter and Teal'c.

Also, curious as to how Daniel will come back, as spirit or human.

I had heard something about how he objected to the military tone of the show.

I doubt that they PLAN to dump Carter and Teal'c, unless one or the other doesn't want to return; but like Shanks, they've probably realized this is the best their careers are ever going to get, and just haven't signed them yet.

Hmm. That's sorta like complaining that Enterprise involves flying in a ship in space. :) Didn't he see the movie? I mean, that's what happens when you put the military in charge of a science project.

Which also begs the question, what would happen with the newbie, Jonas Quinn.

Or, maybe Shanks will come back as O'Neill's conscience, and help him with all the tough, moral decisions. :)

BTW, this will be their first full 22 ep season won't it? It seems that the first 6 weren't that long.

EDIT: I just checked IMDb and apparently all of the previous seasons have been 22 eps long.

They've all been 22 episodes. It just SEEMS longer, because those morons...oops, I mean programming geniuses...at Sci-Fi believe in several-month-long breaks during the season, whereas Showtime liked to run them all in a row, more or less (they took sweeps months off, but I think that was pretty much it).

I doubt Jonas will be retained...no sci fi show has more than one Daniel Jackson (nor less than one), and it looks like next year Daniel Jackson will be Stargate's Daniel Jackson.

Hmmm. I was okay with Corin Nemec. (I've almost forgotten that he was Parker Lewis by now.) Shanks was good too but I just got used to Nemec! Maybe they will retain both somehow.

I actually prefered Nemec, who seemed happy to be there. Shanks' performance grew increasingly bored and lifeless over the years; it was clear his heart was no longer in it for at least a year or two. It got to the point where he sucked the energy out of the show every time he showed up.
