I was wondering...My tivo is running software v1.2.1
I was curious if i could update it to a newer version or what not.
Is there a way i could do this manually without having to call in, by putting something on the hd or whatnot...i just got into the tivo scene and im curious on some info...

If it's still able to call you can just force a few daily calls and you'll get the 3.0 os automatically. No subscription necessary. You can also restore an image to the HD but you'll need to make a call to get the correct channel line-up anyway. Some of the 1.2 OS's dial an old number so you might have to put a good TiVo phone # in the dialing prefix to get a call through.

Thanks bro, I forced a call, and it bounced to 2.5.1 i believe
If i do another, will it update it to 3.0? or does that vary by tivo?

That's the current version for DTiVoes, 3.0 is for stand alones. You'll get 3.1 automatically when it rolls out (fairly soon now).
