Failing HD repair advice.

I have two UNmodified DSR6000 with dual drives. The unit with a lifetime sub started to freeze up while viewing programs last weekend and required reboots to work again. Now it freezes at the finished 90% mark when rebooting.

I am not worried about losing my recorded programs if that will complicated matters (providing their not gone already).

What are the recommended steps I should take to repair this?
Can I use my working DSR6000 drives as working "images" to restore my broken unit?
I just need an outline of what procedures/software I should take. I read all the posts but am unsure what utilities best fit my situation as currently it is not an upgraded unit. I did proactively buy a 60GB to use if necessary.

Do I simply follow hinsdales upgrade procedures using my working DSR6000 image for the new drive? I don't think the drive(s) is dead yet.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Mike

You can try copying your old drives to new media, but if the TiVo is unbootable, there's chance it won't work.

Your working TiVoes drives will be find for this one. Follow Hinsdale's procedure to backup them up and then restore to a new drive for the failing one.

When you put them in the TiVo you'll need to do a 'Clear and Delete Everything' reset because the drives are from a different TiVo, but then everything should be fine.

I have had some successful reboots, its hit or miss. I will first try copying the old drives to new media. If that fails I will use the image from my working unit.

Is 'Clear and Delete Everything' a feature on MFS Tools 2.0 Boot CD? I will do a search on that procedure and read up some more.

After a backup of my drives, should I try a drive repair utility? I saw PowerMax as a suggestion. Any thoughts?

Thanks ahead of time

"Clear and Delete"... should have known it was a TiVo menu option.

Thanks.
