Anyone else like the current season of the Simpsons too?

I know it's pretty early into their season, but the last few shows had quite a few laughs in them! There were just some real gems in last night's eppy! Does anyone else think that the show still has quite a bit of life left in it?

Posted by: Cletus

Yeah, but they should really refrain from singing again. The mid-episode song blew chunks.

My favorite part was a background gag: "photos pages 2-38". :)

Often, when a Simpsons song comes on in an episode, I reach for the wee magical [skip] button. Be-deep! Be-deep! Ah, song over.

Though the one in the ending credits was tasty.

It's not classic Simpsons funny, but it has gotten better. One MAJOR difference I've noticed this year (and maybe last season--haven't been watching as much as I used to): Homer is a supporting character again. It seemed for about 2 or 3 seasons, when the show really started to stink, they were focusing every episode on Homer and his stupidity. It got old for me really quick.

Not all Simpsons songs suck; for instance, the one in "Bart After Dark" is a classic. :)

And... yes, I agree, I miss those episodes where the main plot revolved around the kids.

Simpsons has become The Family Guy :(

Like Homer, Marge, Bart & Lisa. Love Peter, Lois, Brian et al. Please elaborate.

It's a Friends Vs. Married with Children sort of slide. I really can't stand it when the Simpsons does those stupid (lets watch the new TV shows stints) or (lets have a cheesy clip show but if we mention it in the show then its ok) or (trying too hard to be funny). Family Guy was all about that. The Simpson's used to be funny without the camos. The show seems to have run out of steam.

The Simpsons is supposed to be about Homer. The lamest episodes are the ones the involve Marge, Lisa, and to a much lesser extent Bart. That's why the first season and a half wasn't that good, because the episodes did focus on Bart.

The show has "life left in it", but this season has been a lot of "hit or miss". "Treehouse of Terror XIII" was 2/3 miss. Last night was OK, but (as mentioned) the song was pretty lame. And the fact that the kids were so supportive of Marge seemed a bit out of character.

But I'll keep watching. It's better than most of what's on TV.

Very well said, and I agree. That's why I never really cared for Family Guy.

I disagree. The show is an ensemble sitcom and each character has their strengths and weaknesses. FWIW, I do tend to not enjoy shows that focus on Marge. But there have been (IMO) more quality shows featuring Bart (or Bart-and-Lisa) than there have been Homer-only shows. YMMV.

I agree that the initial focus on Bart wasn't very good, but like j mentioned, this is definately an ensemble show. Some of the best eps have been about other characters (heck, some of my favorites have been about non family members!)

I like the current season but do not think it is up to the past seasons. I often watch the old reruns and will often laugh out loud and have at least one line to take to work and repeat to others. That has not yet happened in this season.

I still like it and still rank it in my top 5 but it's not as good as it has been. I think it can recover unlike a lot of regular sitcoms.

Last season was really bad, I nearly abandoned the show. Got my fix with Family Guy in the meantime. I'm back this season and I did register a slight upswing in the humor... I'm enjoying it!

While we're on the subject of TV comedies on Sunday that focus on sem-dysfunctional familes, I will say that I am consistently impressed with Malcolm in the Middle. it's got lots and lots of genuine LOL moments. Gotta love Dewey.

I got bored with Malcolm last season and quit watching it. I had two episodes on my TiVo from the past few weeks and watched them last night. They were both great! One was about a family reunion and one was about Malcolm dumbing down.
Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)
I loved the looks on the boys faces as they drove the golf cart into the pool!!!

Let's start a new thread on Malcolm

I agree, the show is starting to pick up again. Last season was pushing my tolerance for The Simpsons, and I'm a huge fan. It's nothing like the golden days when Conan was writing for the show, but it's better.

Also, I disagree that the episodes with Marge and Lisa are of poorer quality than the ones featuring Homer. One of my favorite episodes of this day is Marge Simpson in Screamin' Yellow Honkers, where she gets the SUV.

Whatever happened to Family Guy, anyway?

The Simpsons is having one of its best seasons....big simpson fan here.

I haven't laughed once this season with the Simpsons. Sorry, its just not funny. I guess I will just stick to syndications esipodes. I sure wish Family Guy and Futurama would come on. Family Guy made me laugh every single esipode, something the simpsons used to do.

I don't think it has been funny this season at all, it hasn't been good in a few years... The glory days when Conan wrote were the best, nothing can compete with that.. Right now its just a regular old cartoon, not one memorable episode or line from the past few years.

OK, changed my mind. Last night's episode was terrible. Aweful. "I'd rather watch "The Nanny"" bad. Seriously.

I hope that the rest of the season isn't as bad, but I just don't expect to be watching new episodes much more this season.

Yes...with the exception of a few one-liners that really just tickled my funnybone, last night's was a let down. Kind of a shame since I've liked the new season up to this point.

I liked the king of the hill theme song but that was about it.

I'm concerned that they're just about out of decent ideas. I mean, "Marge gets breast implants?" Arrgh. They've completely abandoned the character-driven episodes in favor of zany-ness and half-baked satire. It used to be that the writing could carry some of the weaker plotlines (clever lines, funny sight gags, etc.), but this season just isn't cutting it. I know it's still early, but I'm getting worried.

In summary, I'll repeat what I said in an earlier Simpsons thread: for the first time since I got my TiVo, I've watched each new show through once, and Deleted it immediately. The previous seasons, I hung on to them for at least a few weeks and re-watched them. (And pre-TiVo, I kept them on tape.) This season, they're long gone and not missed.

Last night's had moments, but overall it wasn't that great.

The King of the Hill intro bit was hilarious, and I also liked the Comic Book Guy's apartment simply because it had toys from just about every sci-fi show I watched as a kid PLUS the Planet Express spaceship from Futurama. I know there was something else there that I really enjoyed noticing, but I've already forgotten what it was.

Yes, and when you add it to Bender's brief apperance in Bart's daydream during his achievement test from a few episodes ago, apparently the only place we'll see Futurama is on the Simpsons. Since it ain't anywhere else on TV!

At least not until Cartoon Network starts showing reruns.

I got a kick out of ... "Maggie's already drunk on the fumes..... and she's a mean drunk!"

One thing i thought was pretty funny from the show where bart and lisa are in the 3rd grade, when they find Lisa & Bart in Capital City, and Homer says that Maggie doesn't have to take the place of Bart & Lisa, Maggie has a mini-saxaphone and mini-skateboard and throws them away.

That was good.

There are individual funny scenes and moments, but overall the episodes aren't as good.

As we get box sets from season 3-4-5 we'll notice it even more.
