hi
this is my first time posting a question on here,so here goes
i have a phillips series 1(originally 20 hrs)and i bought 2 samsung 120gb hd.i used the hindsdale how to guide that uses tiger mfs tool 2.0 which is the utillity i used, i followed the instruction to a t,and at the end of the process i ended up with 298hr and 55mins,so i did it again but this time i played around with the -s 127 command line,i increase the #(127) which gave me 297hr,so i did it again this time i decrease the swap to 1 which gave me 299hr,but no matter what i did i can,t seem to get it to 300hr or above.does anyone have any suggestions

Some 120GB drives are larger than other 120GB drives. Make sure you use -s 127, or you may have problems later.

By all means do not drop your swap to 1MB!

And why would you worry about 1-2 hours of Basic quality at that point? Like the others suggested, re-do it with -s 127 so your swap can handle rebuilding such a large system if a GSOD occurs.
If you have to have over 300 hours, replace one of the 120 gig drives with a 160 gig drive. You'll only be able to use 137gb, but it'll get you over the hump.

If you're really keen for a big TiVo, use Todd Miller's patched kernel to get past the 137Gb barrier.

thanks fellas for your reponse, although they didn,t quite resolve my problem, but i,m going to try the maxtors, because the curiosioty is killing me,to see if it,s the samsung hard drive is the reason why i,m not getting 300hr,thanls again.

Rather than waste money on such a pointless task, why don't you just look up the actual capacity reported by the manufacturers and do the math? If you've really got to waste money, send it to me. I can think of better ways to spend it.

I'm not sure how your even getting the readings you're getting, unless it's from the MFS program and not the Tivo itself. A 40gig drive gives 30-35 hours of programming, so a 120 gig drive should be 90-105. Two of them should top out at 210.
I have the Samsung 120 and Tivo reports upto 105 hours. I do recall the MFS program reporting a higher figure at the end of the process, but I don't recall how much higher. But I wouldn't worry about it. Every gig is just under an hour of programming. You are not going to get a huge difference with different brands of drives.

A 40GB drive should yield more than 40 hours. That's what a 40-hour TiVo uses. A 120GB drive A should be around 140-145 hours. 1GB gives you about 1.3 basic hours.
BTW, we're talking about standalone units here.
