Here's my situation... I had one of my DirecTivo's where the drive crashed... I finally found a good deal on a 120Gb drive and got it to boot up to the guided setup. This is when I realized that not only had my drive crashed, but apparently my modem was fried as well. Now I am stuck... I had loaded my new drive with 2.5.x and I know that external modems only work with 3.1.... without the modem I am unable to get 3.1 and without 3.1 I cannot use the external modem...

My questions are:

1. Does anyone know where I can get an image?

2. If I find another DirecTivo with 3.1, can I simply copy the image?

3. Since I know that Directv is controlling the rollout of 3.1, will there be a problem with me loading 3.1 onto my unit before the unit is "scheduled" to have it?

It should be OK. (I think it is not generally preferred, but I do not remember any specific problems).

You will need an image from the same type of machine. A P4 access card. And do a complete Reset (restore to factory conditions, wiping all shows) after the machine is running.
