Since I've been having so much trouble lately, I've gotten into the habit of checking the system info pretty regularly to see that everything is "groovy." When I got home tonight, I had a message about the fall update and I swear it was dated 11/14. I can't verify it because I deleted it already. System info reported "Pending Restart." So I when into the reset menu and hit restart.

It did its thing and everything looks fine. What struck me as odd was that I swear I can remember getting this "Fall 2002 Update" message before. And my problems started around mid November. I am now wondering if my DTivo was having a problem loading the new update. Yesterday when I reloaded from my previous backup (from July), I did a low level format and factory recert on the original Quantum drive.

Did anyone else get the 3.1 update in early/mid November? Now I am wondering if there is really anything wrong with either of my drives. I am hesitant though about putting both back in as I really cannot bear to go through all of this again. I just ordered a 120gb drive as a replacement for both, but I'd rather not spend the money if I don't have to.

If I can find an extra 40GB drive somewhere, is there a way to make an image of the orginal quantum drive that I currently have installed, with 3.1, and is appearantly working? That way, if I add my other 80GB drive and have another failure, I could at least get back to where I am today.

Any comments or suggestions?
