Hi there. Im due to purchase a tivo in a few days, and was thinking about getting this turboweb thing, seeing as im also due to get ntl-broadband soon :)
Im a complete n00b to tivo & networking so im wondering what i need? Im going to buy a router aswell soon, so that the tivo can tap off of it. NTL only supply 1 i.p address, will this be a problem?
Basically, i don't have a clue how turboweb works/what it does, apart from the fact it can download channel-listings through meh broadband.
Advice/links welcome :)
Thanks all!

Turbonet and tivoweb are two different parts of the same thing. Torbonet is the adapter which plugs into Tivo, inside the case, to allow you to connect it to a computer network. Your network will need to support more than 1 decive though - a cable network to a router will not be sufficient. Youll need a way of sharing the BB signal with two or more pcs. Then you connect the tivo cable in to the network on a spare connection port.
Youll need a hub also, to enable you to share your BB connection, failing that - a router with more than one port (some come with 4 ports).
Once youre connected, tivo will then be able to d/l its info over the net (although as an ntl user, you need to tweak the configs slightly).
Tivoweb allows you to interact with your network connected tivo via a web interface, allowing you to program it to record, etc, from your pc, or even from over the web.

Can I join in this discussion.........?
Likewise I'm new to the idea of networking Tivo, but with 2 in the house and an already established Cat5 network I was wondering what benefits there might be in connecting them into one another?
Can, for example, programmer's recorded on one Tivo be viewed on a TV connected to another in another part of the house?
Can updates to programme data be distributed (if that would be of any real interest :(
What have others achieved?
Thanks

I am also an NTL user. I installed tivoweb over the weekend, and last night, I ran nic_config_tivo to try to make daily calls over network. I tried a couple of test calls, but both failed. What tweaks do I need to do?

There are details here in the section "Note for NTL Broadband Users".

Thanks for the information. I will try it tonight.
There are so many howto guides about, that I had not seen this one.

C.C. Johnson,
For a short period, I had two TiVos in my house with Turbonet installed on both.
Make sure you set a different MAC address for each ethernet interface otherwise you'll only see one Tivo at a time randomly. It's something very easy to overlook.
Regards,
Nikki
