Taken (Acid Tests) -- SPOILERS!

Can anyone explain the storyline about the two alien twins in the woods? What happened to the archeologists/class? What was the thing about the Raven head? What did Sam (the reporter) find in the woods before the Sherriff found him?

Spoilers ahead, but that's already been warned in the subject, so I'm not tagging them.

They were half-breeds, but also mutated, unlike Jacob Clark. They seemed to have never learned to control their abilities, too, which made them indiscriminate in terms of hurting people who looked into their eye.

The archaeologists/class each looked at Lester's eye, and each one went insane or outright died. Lester was just trying to get someone to help the little girl with the broken leg, but every time one of them looked at him, their minds blew.

I think the raven head was just coincidental, just like the location of the chamber. They were digging up an old Indian site, and Dylan (?) fell through into the cave. Lester had used the other entrance (the one that was boarded up and Sam found thanks to the breeze coming through the rocks) to go there and bury his brother, and write all those symbols on the walls. Nobody realized that the cave was under the Indian/excavation site until Dylan fell through.

Not sure about your question re: Sam and the Sheriff. Was that early on, or right at the end?

Thanks for the clarifications. That's sort of what I thought, but I wasn't sure. The scene to which I was referring where Sam found something was when he went out to the burial chamber after the Sherriff warned him to leave town. He found somthing, heard a noise and ran. Then he fell and awoke in the old man's cottage. The old man then told him the story of his two halfbreed grandchildren. What was it that Sma found? I paused the scene a few times, but it was too dark.

OK, I went back and re-watched the part you're asking about. Sam went into the chamber, noticed the breeze, found the blocked entrance, removed the rocks, crawled his way through, kicked out the boarded up outer entrance, and then walked around the forest a bit until he found Lewis' body (the dead brother wrapped like a mummy). He unwrapped the head, and it was obvious it wasn't human. It wasn't quite as alien-looking as the purebred aliens found in the Roswell crash, but Sam wouldn't know that. Just then he heard Lester coming, ran away, and fell down the hill, knocking his head and passing out. I have no idea why the old man found him instead of Lester, unless it's just a gaping plot hole.

Thanks Dan!

So far, the subtle subtext, (as of "Acid Tests") seems to be that the good, they die young, and the evil live to a ripe old age. And even spawn new evil.

For instance, the Capt. Owen Crawford character. After all the stuff he got away with, he's given a quick death by stroke? I thought that he deserved at least an alien probing or two, before suffering some vile and vicious form of demise.

And now, it appears that his evil prodigy will take over right where he left off.

BTW, did anyone else feel that this ep had sort of an X-Files or Invasion of the Body Snatchers feel to it?

This ep?!? :D

(Not that there's anything wrong with that...)

Yeah, the last couple of episodes definitely have an X-Files feel. It's sort of like, this is what happened when Mulder's father was involved in the project. And Jacob's stepbrother, is sort of taking on the Mulder role by trying to learn about the project from the outside.

I also thought that the scenes in the woods had a Blair Witch Project feel and for a while, I thought I was watching a different movie. Then they tied it back in to the aliens.

You mention the good dying young. For quite a while I was wondering if Sam really died in the fire. Maybe I need to watch it again but I would have sworn that Lester mentioned bringing the girl food and hiding/leaving by a tunnel before she awoke. I don't think he was referring to the burial tunnel.
Though we heard Sam screaming after he "looked" at Lester I couldn't shake the feeling that he had escaped and would turn up later. Guess not.

Not all of the episodes have the same director. This is why some of the episodes have different "feels" to them.
