Cleavage

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: bruab

Yes, tonight on A&E, it's Cleavage:

A&E Invites You to Take An Uplifting Look at Cleavage Through the Ages

Sexy and fun, this 2-hour special surveys mankind's fascination with breasts and cleavage, from the goddesses of antiquity to today's silicone-enhanced TV and film stars. Offering their opinions on why two simple mounds of flesh have wielded such power through the ages will be comedian Joan Rivers; Cosmopolitan's Helen Gurley Brown; a plastic surgeon; a female body builder; and others. Narrated by Carmen Electra.

Ah, two hours. Of course. ;)

Cool, thanks.

satch ;)

Posted by: QueenBee

Yeah, when I think of cleavage (which I DON'T), Joan Rivers and Helen Gurley Brown are the two women who first pop into my mind.

Posted by: nrc

Thanks, I was trying to resist that. It was calling to me from the program listing like, well you know, but I managed to resist pressing 'record'. I've got to work on my resume tonight. Must...resist...cleavage...

Mmmmm..... cleavage.....

I can think of two good reasons to watch this program.

Now THIS is Arts and Entertainment!!!!

Hey, on this topic, does anyone remember a very funny Johnny Carson bit about this?

Went something like this...
Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)
set-up with Ed, they are talking about a traffic problem, I think in NYC. Show some footage of a gorgeous, well endowed woman walking down the street, and entering a subway... serious discussion, we're bringing in noted psychiatrist so and so to help explain the phenomenon... flourish, intro, background... "So Dr. can you explain this"... dead pan "She's got the biggest set of boobs I've ever seen... tada dum...

What's funny is I think I already scheduled it for recording. My husband loves those kinds of shoes......

You can make SHOES out of them? Man, those have got to be comfortable! Where do I get a pair?

This is the kind of show you want to watch with two of your closest friends. :D

But don't you want to dig into the deep historical significance of cleavage and learn how cleavage has changed through the ages? This is educational TV! You should get your children (especially boy children) and FORCE them to watch! They might learn something!

One of the things that I found interesting about some of these shows in the past....

On Desmond Morris's "The Human Animal", they were showing cleavage of a young woman. Every male immediately perked up when they see the picture of it. The picture shows what seems to be nice breast cleavage, but when the camera pans back, it ends up being butt cleavage.

So, now we have a T&A thread.

Yeah, one of the features in those laddie magazines is a bunch of cleavage shots with the title "Butt cleavage or real cleavage". Surprisingly, it's not that easy to pick out sometimes...

I gotta admit, the shot on "Human Animal" got me. I couldn't tell. They put the butt cleavage in a body hugging dress that dipped low in the back, so you couldn't tell from the clothing.

The theory is that evolutionally, good butt cleavage and breast cleavage is an indicator of overall health and vitality. Apparently, these things are what attracts males (who would've thought? ).

For femals, it is a triangular shaped torso (large shoulders, narrow at hips). Apparently this is an indicator of good hunting skills (evolutionarily speaking). Speaking modernly, it just seems to be a good indicator of working out. Of course, the overly muscle bound (almost caricature like) was considered not attractive. Duh!

Man you are having trouble with the "e"s today aren't you???:D

Posted by: bruab

I enjoy Desmond Morris, and "The Human Animal" in particular, but it bugs me that he provides zero proof for any of the things he says. It seems like he never quotes studies or any kind of research. It all seems based on analogy: cleavage can be made indistinguishable from butt cleavage, therefore cleavage is some kind of evolutionary indicator to men of a woman's hips being wide enough to bear children. I mean some of it may be true, but it's all grounded in speculation. Maybe that's what makes it fun...?

Hmm, maybe I need to watch that special tonight and take notes. :D

I'm pretty sure that Desmond Morris went further in his book the Human Ape. He claims that since the only primate who walks upright is also the only primate with always prominent breasts on women, that the breasts are there are to simulate what we're so delicately calling butt cleavage.

You see, a gorilla babe can back up and "present". Human females are more face to face.

Whatever the explanation, it really is amazing how much we men fixate on boobs. Can you imagine if women felt the same away about our gonads? Trying to sneak peeks and fondle them. Dear god it would be the end of the world.

Great line from Will & Grace. He throws down a gynecologists book in horror and she says "oh sure, and your stuff looks just like a box of puppies".

Not to get too technical, but boobs aren't gonads. They're secondary sexual characteristics. So it would be like women fixating on say, men's chests or butts. Ha ha, boy wouldn't that be ... oh, wait.

Whatta bunch of weenies. We all brag to everyone that we don't have to watch live TV - we got Tivo. This was a pretty "hot" thread, 72 posts in about 3.5 hours before the A&E show started broadcasting. Its on right now and this place is like a ghost town. Well, OK, I guess we don't HAVE to watch live TV, but if there are a couple of subjects really worth scoping out I guess its OK to watch live.;) :D
edited to add, average time between posts earlier was about three minutes - time from previous post here and hour and a half:up:

I suspect it'll be a lonely night for us.

Wait. This could be the night the women take over the forum! Pretty soon, Brad Pitt photos will be everywhere, and some cranky male mod will tell us no leering. We'll be discussing biceps, and muscular thighs, yes, but we'll also discuss our periods at depth, and what to expect when perimenopause starts. We'll each get to describe our labor and birth and how closely the doctor worked with our birthing plan. We'll have long, long threads debating whether tulle makes a good material for a party skirt, and debating the merits of stilettos and whether men really like toe cleavage. We'll talk about our boyfriends and husbands and their numerous and varied faults. We'll lament the loss of Oprah's book club, and discuss whether it caused us to cancel our season passes or not. We'll discuss Hidalgo's stacked rings, who is the best dressed woman in America, and the best scent to use for your house while upgrading your TiVo.

Hmmmm...maybe being on a male dominated forum isn't so bad at all.

Posted by: willardcpa

That's it, I just hit the rewind button.:D

We may be women, but we're basically women geeks.

Ew, is that some kind of weird medical pun? Yuck!

Boy, we men wander off for a few minutes, and this is the best you gals can come up with?

And for the record, I was NOT watching the A&E special, I was, um, watching a bunch of old episodes of "Extended Play" from TechTV. Hmm, that doesn't really sound better, does it? Geekier, for sure.

I was playing Asheron's Call 2. TiVo is watching Cleavage for me so I can watch it at my leisure.

Ereth, you're going to have to go back to the adult atavar if you're gonna be talking about cleavage. That sweet little face - I can't take it!

It'd be curious. Mine is tivo'ing away for the hubby.

Well, I might not want to watch it all at once. I'll watch it in spurts.

I think that, so far, the most intriquing quote (yes, it has audio! Who knew?) was from Tyra Banks who said that Breasts and Cleavage have little to do with each other. I wonder what show she was watching? (Though I have to admit that the opening line about "Cleavage. Half the population has it and the other half desires it" made me think about Darin and BobCarn and try to figure out which half they were in. Fortunately there were distracting pictures shortly after that so I didn't think about it very long)

I caught part of the re-air. It wasn't all it was cracked up to be.

My favorite bit was about two small-chested women who strapped on giant, misshapen boobs and then marvelled at all the stares they got. These things looked like the back of an old Cadillac. My wife gives me props for keeping my ogling discrete and I would have gawked at these women just trying to figure out what those things were supposed to be.

I don't doubt that a nice rack will gain plenty of attention, some of it unwanted. But if I put two oranges and a cucumber in my shorts I'm going to get gawked at, too.

I had Cedric The Entertainer on tonight and Fastlane came on after Cedric. I didn't watch the 'Cleavage' show but Fastlane was overflowing with it tonight.

Bob and Darin are looking for the butt cleavage.....remember the earlier discussion?:)

I'm late to the game so I apologize for the long post, but....

You have me laughing waaaaay too hard after dinner.

Too funny.

I can tell you all about my episiotomy......

Let's see if we can run the men off.....

And Queen Bee, I like being a woman geek.

Anything! Anything! Talk about your monthlies, talk about menopause, but don't talk about that! But, you can talk about your geekiness all you want!

It'd be curious. Mine is tivo'ing away for the hubby.

</male moment>

One other comment: "I'll watch it in spurts"

I think the whole point of butt cleavage for Darin and Bob is that it's NOT attached to an attractive female body......:)

Oh look, I bumped Cleavage! It IS a good day!

;)

(I actually have been very busy and haven't finished watching it. I wonder if I should set it Save Until I Delete...)

Posted by: Rcrew

If bumping Cleavage makes your day, all I can say is...

dang we're belong to the same club!

I haven't finished either, guess I'm just trying to make it last...

Posted by: Ereth

Shannon, shannon, shannon.

Are you really SURPRISED that we are still talking about Cleavage?

I mean it was Educational TV, right? Arts and Entertainment, the finer things in life? Isn't it better than talking about Cops or Survivor or Baywatch?

Hmm. There's two things I was thinking about watching tonight on TiVo, but now I can't remember what they were....

Posted by: Hunter Green

I haven't watched this (not really sure I want to, but even if I did, the wife probably wouldn't look kindly on it appearing in Now Playing). However, I did check the schedule, and I note for your edification that it only has one more showing coming up (at least on my guide), Saturday night at midnight.

Or, as TiVo itself charmingly puts it, "Cleavage is only available:"...

Posted by: Rcrew

Ereth made me do it...

Posted by: Rcrew

Dang, Saturday night at midnight... it's taking over the Rocky Horror time slot... I feel a new thread coming on!

edit: check that, it's been in several threads before. maybe i'll just resurect one of them...

Posted by: loopey

Actually it's not on at midnight. Look again it's 12PM sunday - noon. I thought midnight when I first looked, but I was wrong. Too bad it interferes with football :(.

Posted by: Ereth

Football.... cleavage....football....cleavage

Hmmmmmmmmmm.......

Hummmmmmmmm....... duals, cleavage, both, boob tube, twins...

Oh yeah DTiVo with two tuners... hummmmm a TiVo with Cleavage!

Football and Boobs!

Hey Ereth! Did you see my other thread since Shannon chased me out of this one? I got to talk about underpants instead of cleavage! And we got to look at Magenta's cleavage too!

Remind me to thank Shannon later!

Posted by: Rcrew

Oh yeah... Hey Shannon (and Anubis if you stop by)....

Ereth made me say that!

No silly, he's making me talk about yours...

I tried to convince him I don't kiss and tell, but he twisted my arm...

It hurt too...

Ereth's a meanie...

Posted by: Anubis

Oh, come on. Look at that sweet face and that charming little smile. You're making it up.

I'm TELLING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :p

Posted by: Rcrew

Ok, ok, he didn't twist my arm... I'm sorry, I lied...

He gave me two candy bars, and 3 yugio cards to tell!

Posted by: Anubis

You traded my underpants for chocolate-covered nougat and comic book cards?

I feel so... used.

Okay, I'm off to take a cold shower now.

Posted by: Rcrew

Oooh, butt-floss just doesn't do it for me... panties now we can talk... and thong, well no need to talk...

Hey Anubis! I didn't trade um... I made him pay just to hear about them!

There isn't enough nougat, well, chocolate nougat..., to get me to give them up. Unless that is, I have a ready supply! ;)

Hmmm. Considering the humor and intelligence of the women here, I for one would welcome such threads. Talk about an educational experience! Have at it, ladies.

Please, never encourage anyone to talk about Oprah's book club unnecessarily! :p

Nor should anyone talk about where Rcrew is getting this ready supply of my underwear....

Wow, I've been busy and it's been hours since I thought about Cleavage.

Somehow that's just wrong!

Posted by: Anubis

Who are you and what have you done with our Ereth?

What could possibly be more important than cleavage??

what's wrong with you? I'm very disappointed.

Posted by: bruab

I'm right in the middle of Cleavage. I doubt I'll finish - I like it here. :)

Funny, a quickie joke about something I saw in the A&E schedule becomes the longest thread I've ever started. Underestimate the power of Cleavage at your peril!

Posted by: Ereth

I wonder if there'll be a sequel?

Shouldn't cleavage always come in pairs?

Posted by: Rcrew

I wonder if the first show will boost interest, or if it'll just go bust.

I still haven't gotten back to finishing. My GF has been busy, and she wanted me to come with her this weekend. We started watching together, and would like to finish together.

Good job. You were able to lift this topic and give it good support
