TiVo peculiar "lockups"
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I've looked through some of the other lockup threads but I think my circumstances are different. My box (actually my parents but I'm tech support) becomes unresponsive to remote control and doesn't display a picture on the television. The interesting part is that it _IS_ still recording stuff. Both times it's happened the recordings were complete except that the cable box was on the wrong channel (TiVo didn't change it). So it would appear that the IR part is non-functional and the section that passes through the video to the TV isn't functioning correctly. The part the records the incoming signal however is functioning correctly. The TiVo comes back to life when you yank power and plug it back in. I haven't had an occassion to see if the TivoNet still works and if so if any processes aren't functioning (it's my parents and I'm not even going to try to talk my dad through telnet'ing in to the box <grin>). The TiVo has been upgraded from a 20 hour with a new 80-gig maxtor. The oddest part is that it's been fine for almost exactly a year since it was upgraded but now it's done this twice in like three weeks... Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

If the green, "power" LED is out when this happens, then try this thread: http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-v...+turns+tivo+off

Thanks Dave. I had forgotten to include that little piece. That link looks like it fits my circumstances.
