Weaknees Upgrade Question

I’m a newbie to the world of Tivo. I recently purchased a 105 hour upgrade for my newHughes HDVR2 from weaknees. While waiting for the installer, I went and installed the upgrade into the new system. During the initial setup, I got a message that said something about erasing and resetting everything and that it would take an hour. It turned out that the system had some problems and had to be returned, so I switched the drives back. Well today I put the upgrade into my new system. This time I did not get the message about erasing everything and taking an hour. It is my understanding that these images are somewhat serialized. Given that I was unable to finish guided setup on the first unit, am I going to have any problems with these second unit due to any lingering configuration settings? If so, can I fix it easily?

If it is not giving you an error #51 when you first bring up your TiVo Central screen then you will not have any problems. If you run into the error (my guess is that you will) you can run a Clear and Delete Everything from the System Reset menu and then will need to run Guided Setup again.
Weaknees HDVR2 upgrade kits must not have the unit serial number cleared out from their image thus requiring purchasers to wait for the Full Clear and Delete everything to complete before being able to run Guided Setup.

Can you explain the circumstaces surround the return a bit more?
I'm concerned that the upgrade drive might be the source of your problems. If you excluded this possibility by reproducing the error with the original drive, then I have more confidence that the upgrade drive is intact.
The "Clear and Erase All" function will load your drive with the specific serial number of your DirecTiVo, which is necessary for proper TiVo function. If you have a new unit with a new serial number, you should probably repeat the Clear and Erase All process, if for no other reason than to clear your drive of the GS information from your original aborted (?) setup. It's a prudent measure, and will not harm your TiVo, so I would recommend a repeat.

The problems that I had occurred with both drives (I tried both). I had two problems. One was a bad video card. Instead of the directv blue, I got purple with pink horizontal lines. The other problem was the tuner 1 showed 90% satellite strength with only the power cord and s-video cable. Installer had not even put up the dish or cables yet. Couldn't align the dish if the receiver already indicated that everything was fine.
I will know about this unit in a few days....
