Installation blues

I had my DirecTiVo installation scheduled for today between 8am-noon, so I took a half day off work to be at home. I finally got a call around 11 telling me the installer was running late and wouldn't be here until after 12:30. I told the CSR I can't take more time off today and I expressed my displeasure but rescheduled anyway. I was told "Sorry, but there's nothing we can do about it." I told her that all I really need is the multiswitch - so can I just get that? "No". I'm required to waste another day to wait for an installer who may or may not show up.

What I don't understand is why businesses like this think it's ok to treat their customers this way? I lost a half day's pay to be here at home- per the scheduling agreement which clearly says they would be here between 8am and noon. So I lose income and DirecTV is ok with that??

I knew I was blowing in the wind, but I tried to explain to the young lady that I'm a manager and part of my job is to schedule employees to be places at specific times. If one of my guys gets "tied up" with the job he's on, I simply send someone else. I won't waste people's time by not keeping my appointments. It's just not good business.

Of course none of my griping made any difference to her. "So sir, do you want to reschedule or not?" I told her "yes, please reschedule, although I probably won't be here when he comes I'll make sure to leave a note explaining that I was tied up and ask him to wait for a couple hours until I get back." I'm sure he'll understand.

Dude, he was only going to be a half hour late. Try being reasonable next time. Your blood pressure will thank you.

When I have an installer coming, I try to work with the company to make sure either I'm first or last on the list.

At least that way I know when to show up :)

REASONABLE???? You're joking, right? You're assuming that he'd actually be here "a half hour late." Why should I believe that when he couldn't even hit a four hour window???? I was extremely reasonable for the four hours I sat here waiting for him (which cost me about $150 in lost income for the day). Maybe your time isn't important -or- valuable, but mine is.

Cheers!

Sincerely sorry for your problem, but if all you wanted was a multiswitch, they certainly cost a lot less than $150.

You're correct.....but since I can't predict the future I didn't know the installer wasn't going to show up or I would have just bought one. At any rate, the installer came the next day and when I opened the door he asked "so whadda ya need?" I said "a multiswitch and three lengths of RG-6....he said "great" and was gone in five minutes. Everything's working fine.

Cheers,
David

hey its not like it was gonna take him 1 min to set it up. let say he did get their at noon. he would probley be done at 12:30-1. Plus the reason why he was running late was because he may have been helping some one else for extra time. its not an exact science. Just take the whole day off and make it up in over time!

Tell ya what....I'm sorry I complained about scheduling an installer to be here between 8 and noon. I should never have expected an installer to show up because I now know they're very busy and misunderstood people. I should have realized that the four hour window was only a very rough guess. I apologize to everyone in the community and will try to be more forgiving and understanding and reasonable in the future. I'm embarassed that I was only thinking of myself and my own needs. I'll try to be a better person in the future.
