I have tivo stand alone with direct tv. I am thinking of switching to dish for the local channel. how can I be sure the new dish box will plug into my svr-2000? this local channel thing sound like a nightmare. I would like to be able to go back to direct tv if I am not satisfied but they say I have to get new antenna and every thing. Do the have a money back policy? Has dish got good customer service?
I am nervous

Dish has horrible customer service and, most say, poorer picture overall.
As poor as DTV's customer service is, at times, Dish makes it seem like the greatest.
I deal with both daily and even the Dish installers are poorer. I believe that DTV at least tries to screen out the bad ones but Dish seems to keep using the poorest even with many complaints.
This is based on one area of the country, SE TN, but that is my experience.
BTW: Plugging it in should not be a problem at all. Dish receivers have the standard AV signals and jacks.
You will have to control it via the IR blasters and THAT can be HUGE problem as well.

Well, I haven't had Dish for about a year now, but my experience was positive overall. The Dish receiver worked fine with my SA TiVo, and I had no problems with the IR blasters. Picture quality was fine then - it may be less so now.
As for installers - they vary. You will need a different dish for Dish Network than you use for DirecTV.
I gather that the reason you're doing this is that DirecTV doesn't offer your locals? How about "basic" cable service? I can't quite see the point of switching from DirecTV to Dish for this.

That's exactly what I was going to say. I had a SA TiVo with Dish network and 'lifeline' cable service which had my locals. The SA TiVo worked just fine switching between the coax input (my local channels) and the line in jacks (my Dish Network receiver). No issues with channel changes via the IR blasters with my 4900 rcvr. I did have some loss of channel changes with my model 5000, but it wasn't TiVo's fault. The 5000 had laggy software.
In any event, if you can get lifeline cable (which cost me $8 per month and gave me a few more channels than what Dish was offering via locals), I'd go for it.

I have 3 SA Tivos, and Dish network. The picture is great, and customer service has always been great to me. DTV I don't know about as it's not available here, but I continue to be completely satisfied with Dish, and SA Tivos work great with Dish, OTA and cable.

I've been a Dish customer for about 2 years. I've never had a problem with their customer service. I worked in customer service for about 10 years and am usually really critical of the service I receive.
My experience with DirectTV was less than satisfactory when I made initial calls about getting their service. The service rep was rude and condesending when I called to ask basic questions about their service. The Dish rep was very helpful.
My Dish instal was free. I think I had to do some sort of mimimal service commitment for that. I've not seen DirectTV offer free instal where I live.
I have a SA TiVo and have had no problems using it with Dish.
