Question on lost local channels

I have 2 DirecTiVos. I upgraded them a long time ago (with separate backups). I decided to make another backup since getting v3.1 and also decided to just keep just one backup that I could use on either machine. I know that you need to do a clear and delete everything to use an image from one DirecTiVo in another.

So, I made the backup and then restored it to a 40GB drive to verify it would work. I first put it in the DirecTiVo it was made from and it worked fine. Next, I put it in the other DirecTiVo. Of course it griped, so I did a clear and delete everything. After that completed, all was fine except I lost my local channels. I have read that others have had this happen too. I know that I could call DirecTV and have them re-hit the card. However, I was just wondering if the locals would come back on their own eventually. Does anyone know if they would come back over time?

It's my experience that they don't come back right away. Give it a day or so and see if they're still AWOL. Incidentally, guide data for those channels also takes longer than the other channels to populate.

Thanks Rob. I'm not too concerned about it at this point. I just want to be sure that my single backup would be sure to work on both of my units if I ever needed it to. If the locals would come back on their own, I would probably just wait for them to show up vice calling DirecTV.

I did a weeknees drive upgrade on my directivo yesterday. After the process was complete - took about 15 minutes - I turned the unit on and it went through a few initialization steps and seemed to work fine. Then I noticed that I also lost the local channels. I got them back by calling DirecTV who reset the system and it took about another 10 minutes before they all appeared. Give them a call and that should fix your problem.

Hey Mark, I'm in the same boat right now. I used the wrong Philips DTivo backup (I have 2 backup images and I couldn't tell which one was which) and I had to do a all clear reset. The locals (low numbers) dissapeared.

Did your locals show up enventually? or did you have to call them?

I've had similiar things with locals when I've restored an old backup, or if I do a "Clear and Delete Everything", or "Clear Guide and To Do list".

The locals (channels 2-65) disappear....but they do eventually come back....I've seen them come back in as little as 15 minutes....and as much as leaving overnight. They always came back though. I think TiVo just clears them out when you reset (or they aren't there if you restore an old backup), and next time your access card gets checked, it sees them and reloads the guide data.

Cool, thanks for the update...

... and btw, when the search engine works for me, I'd rather resurrect an old thread than start my own. Ole' time user here and don't want to get flamed for "not using the search engine". hehe

My DTiVo just rebooted last night on its own. When it finally came back online, my locals were gone. About 15 minutes later, I was able to access my local channels.
