SAN JOSE, Calif., June 4 /PRNewswire/ -- A recent Yankelovich survey found that the majority of American males rate a home entertainment system as the number one Father's Day gift this year, preferring to add a new "toy" to their entertainment system over other consumer electronic gadgets. What better way to put a smile on Dad's face than to bring home TiVo, one of the hottest new additions in home entertainment.
With the ability to pause, rewind, instant replay and playback in slow motion any live television broadcast, TiVo is the perfect complement to any home entertainment system. As part of TiVo's easy-to-use service, Dads can digitally record their favorite television shows as well as create a customized television lineup for viewing at anytime. What does this mean for Dad? He will never have to miss his favorite sporting event or show again.
TiVo powers a digital video recorder and works with any TV system -- cable, digital cable, satellite, antenna, or even combinations -- to give consumers complete control over their television. The TiVo Service works with standalone personal video recorders from trusted consumer electronics brands -- like Philips and Sony. In addition, the DIRECTV Receiver with TiVo seamlessly integrates the TiVo Service with DIRECTV programming -- all in one easy-to-use product, available from Hughes, Philips and Sony.
Exceptional Value
With current discounts, now is the perfect time for the value-conscious consumer to buy TiVo Receivers and Recorders. Philips has reduced the TiVo 20, 30 and 60 Hour standalone Personal TV Recorders by $100 dollars and is currently providing a $100 mail-in rebate with the purchase of the DIRECTV Receiver with TiVo from Philips, valid through August 31, 2001. SONY is providing a $100 mail-in rebate with the purchase of either the DIRECTV Receiver with TiVo from SONY or the SONY SVR-2000 Digital Network Recorder, valid through September 30, 2001. With these discounts a TiVo enabled recorder can be purchased for as low as $199 and a DIRECTV Receiver for as low as $249. In addition, DIRECTV is also currently offering free installation for new DIRECTV customers who purchase a DIRECTV Receiver with TiVo when the customer subscribes to DIRECTV programming, valid through July 25, 2001. Digital recorders and receivers with TiVo are available at leading consumer electronics retailers nationwide such as Circuit City and Best Buy and online at Amazon.com (www.amazon.com) and American Satellite(www.americansatellite.com). Dad, The Family Man
This year's hottest Father's Day gift is also the perfect present for the entire family. With TiVo, fathers can reshape the TV timetable to work around their busy family life, not the other way around, allowing dads to do what they do best: be a coach, a teacher, a fan and most importantly, a father. TiVo's smart search technology and original content uncovers and records the very best, including hidden gems, of all that television has to offer across every genre, from sitcoms to sports, for kids and adults. Plus, fathers will never miss an episode of their favorite program with TiVo's Season Pass(TM), which automatically finds and digitally records every episode of a favorite series, even if the schedule changes. Fathers across the nation can help with homework or tuck their children into bed knowing that their favorite shows will be there, waiting.
"This past year, I became a father and the focal point of my life has changed to our little girl -- regardless of what time it is," said Tim Reiter, a TiVo customer and new father. "With TiVo, my wife and I can finally watch the programs we enjoy, regardless of when our little one finally decides to go to sleep! And TiVo lets me pause live TV when there's a diaper to change."
Dad, The Sports Fan
With the TiVo Service, Dads will no longer have to shout, "Did you see that?" as they sit on the edge of the couch, waiting for the instant replay to take another look at that crushing tackle, an amazing hit or a questionable call. With TiVo's TrickPlay(TM) features Dads can finally "make the call" with TiVo's replay button and slow motion to judge whether the referee was right or not. What's more, Dads can use TiVo's WishList(TM) feature to keep track of multiple games. The WishList uses key words, titles and categories to search and record shows of your choice, Dads will be able to watch their favorite sporting event, even if they don't know when a game is on television.
"With TiVo, I can watch sports at anytime and even keep up with different sports teams being broadcast on various channels," said Ronnie Lott, defensive coordinator, sports marketing at TiVo, "With TiVo's time shifting capabilities, Dads like me can finally take advantage of the little quiet time they have after their priorities are attended to by rewarding themselves with their favorite programs."

Yahoo finance had the same article. It's kind of silly for TiVo to be doing ads in press releases, don't you think? After all, there was no real financial info in that release....
