Tivo upgrade problem: Tivo drive wrong size 2GB?
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hi,
I am doing an upgrade on my single drive 40GB DirectvTivo unit. I bought a
western digital drive 120GB and connect it and the Tivo drive to my PC. The
PC reports correct size for the pc hard disk and the new western digital
drive, but it reports 2GB for the Tivo drive. It does not seems like a
drive lock problem but I use qunlock utility to unlock it anyway. It does
not help. I am following the following link for upgrade instruction:

Any idea how to resolve this?
Thanks!

Have you tried doing 'Detect hard drives' from the BIOS configurator?
You may have to set the BIOS to None on the TiVo drive's channel.
The important thing is that Linux sees the drives as the right size, it's not vital that the BIOS does.

Thanks for the reply. The Bios setting for hard drive is Auto Configure.
I just want to describe what I have done in case I made mistake in somewhere else.
The PC is about 5 years old and it could not boot with CD-Rom. So I create a floppy with TiVoMad v3.2 and boot up with it. The sizes are reported by Linux when the PC boots up with the floppy. I just couldn't figure out why it report correct size for other drive even all the setting are the same
Anyway I went ahead with the "dd" to copy the whole drive(I plan to reuse the original Tivo drive for my PC). It seems to copy the 2GB size of data(based on the result of dd, 32k x 64464 ~= 2000M) . But the new drive is not bootable when connect to Tivo.
Too bad I might have to return the new drive to Fry's.
