Hi,
I am upgrading my 40gig A on my Thompson tivo and have just followed the instructions for making a back up to my C: drive.
This all appeared to work fine.
I have now Recovered the backup to the new Samsung 80gig 7200 drive to test the back up using the command:
mfsrestore -s 127 -xzpi /mnt/dos/tivo.bak /dev/hdc /dev/hdb
I have now tried putting the new drive into my Tivo.
The screen come up saying ' Welcomew powering up' but nothing happens even after 10 minutes.
Due to this I have tried reseting the hardrive from master to cable select as per the orginal but still get the same screen.
Can anyone advise me on this.
Cheers,
Dave.

I think you only need
mfsrestore -s 127 -xzpi /mnt/dos/tivo.bak /dev/hdc
where hdc is if your new samsung is connected to your secondary master

Thanks for the reply.
I just rechecked what I did an to perform the restore I actually used the command:
mfsrestore -s 127 -bzpi /mnt/dos/tivo.bak /dev/hdb
as per (Any Series 2 units - Boot CD or Floppy users command.
I am using version 2.5.5 software in the tivo so I presumed this was the right way to go.
I cant even hear the hardrive being accessed, just put original back in and works fine you can hear the heads clattering away.

Update.
I have just tried it out on a Mxtor 80gig 7200 now with the same problem.
Due to this I would presume it has something to do with the backup file I have done.
I used the command:
mfsbackup -l32 -6so /mnt/dos/tivo.bak /dev/hdc
(UK TiVo with v2.5.5 command)
Any clues??
Just tried to make a backup again then restore it with the same reports.
If it helps I am using a Thompson UK Tivo with an original 40gig Quantum drive.

Right another update:
I have managed to get the backup to work now by issiuing the folowing command :
mfsrestore -s 127 -zpi /mnt/dos/tivo.bak /dev/hdb
instead of:
mfsrestore -s 127 -bzpi /mnt/dos/tivo.bak /dev/hdb
so what does missing out the b in the -bzpi do??????????
cheers,
dave.

I have now added the new drive as drive B to the original drive and all works fine.
What hassle I had trying to get the backup working just because of the one letter.
Anyway thanks to the one person who added his help (Cyril)..
Da\/e.

-b and -B control byteswapping, which MFS Tools can usually figure out for itself. -b turns byteswapping off, which is what you need for a Series 2 (MIPS processor), but, as you discovered, not what you need for the PowerPC-based Series 1 TiVoes like ours.

Thanks Robert.
So what is our model actually called?
And is there a backup for it in the ftp area do you know?
Cheers,
Dave.

It's officially the PVR10UK, but there is only one UK TiVo at the moment, so the issue doesn't arise.
A couple of UK users have backups on their private FTP sites, but theres nothing like the archive site with all the US Series 1 TiVo backups.
