How do I change the Bash Prompt to tell me the working directory?

Ok, I just got my TurboNet installed and got Telnet, FTP and TiVoWeb all working great. I have some minor Linux skills, (Probably just enough to be dangerous), and I'm having fun digging around the system. My only question is now to change that darn prompt! I'm used to having my working directory listed right in fromt of me and the default prompt only shows the BASH version. Can someone help me please?

That's swell! Leave me your phone number. :)

I got my TurboNet board over a week ago, but I'm still "studying" Linux - installed RedHat 5.1 on an old 486. Has a bad BIOS (Y2K Bug!) - thinks this is 2094! Found and installed an "Atomic Clock" program. I've used CP/M and DOS, but, I still find Linux/Unix cumbersome.

Some of these commands seem so obvious after you get used to them (but the CNTL-keys to move around in vi make NO SENSE whatsoever!).

PWD - In Unix at work, every user has a home directory with a .profile file. In it, I set up alias's and my prompt:

PS1='${PWD} => '; export PS1

I remember reading in the RedHat book about root also having a .profile-type file (think of them as autoexec.bat) but the name escapes me. If none of the guru's reply by the time I get to my book, I'll look it up and post it.

Did you have any problems getting TurboNet, FTP and TivoWeb running? Do you have BASH on the serial port available? I plan to implement Stormsweeper's "BASH on serial on alternate boots" script as a safety net to get back in after the case is all buttoned up and something "burps".
