Tivo Community is Deciding Factor in Purchase

I'm leaving in a few minutes to pick up my 60 gb tivo. I'm getting an open box one from Best Buy based information from this forum. I've also already picked up one of those clearance av kits from Radio Shack that people have been talking about.
I've been looking at PVRs for the past month or so. My decision came down to one thing: this bulletin board. It was great to read everyone's comments, suggestions, and insights.
Anyways, I just wanted to thank everyone for their messages and participation. In my mind, the community is what distinguishes Tivo from it's competition.

Thanks! Welcome to the Tivolution!

I did the same thing back in wow - '99. Back then, it was this forum in general, and TiVolutionary (back then, TiVo Webmaster) and his incessant involvement in this forum that made my decision for me. Of course, that was before he succumbed to the Dark Side :D.
TiVo definitely deserves kudos for their support of this community, and their general desire to help us out (i.e., making upgrades possible, backdoor codes, including unsupport broadband support). I can't think of another company that I've ever had the please to do business with that makes me feel like they want to keep me as a customer.
Oh, yeah, welcome to the TiVolution! Be prepared to enjoy one of the best purchases you've ever made in your life! :)

I feel like I'm on AOL.
"Me too"
I'd seen the Joe Montana commercials for TiVo and was curious. At that tie TiVos went for about $500 for a 30 hour. I went to www.tivo.com which pointed me here. After reading the forums, especially the Underground, for a couple of weeks I was completely smitten. I myself have 2 TiVos and are directly responsible for about 20 others. All because of this forum.

Success.
Picked up the Tivo last night from Best Buy. I wasn't sure whether the price they quoted me was actually the open box price plus 10% off so I asked the salesman. He took out a calculator and worked the numbers. He told me that it was in fact the open box price plus 10% off and the best he could do was take another $20 off! :-)
So I got a 60gb unit for $279 and I'm going to send in for the $50 rebate. Everything seems to be working fine. I had a bit of trouble getting the ethernet adapter to work originally until I put the tivo in standby and unplugged it for a couple of minutes.
Now, I just have to figure out how to use the thing. I have sound coming out my stereo, but not my tv even though video is going to the tv. I think I'm going to have to trace some wires to figure out what is going on.
I'm also having trouble setting up a wishlist or season pass to record all University of Oregon Basketball. It seems like a wishlist should make that easy, but it doesn't find anything.
Overall, I'm very satisfied, and I'm sure with some more work this weekend, I'll find solutions to those problems.
Thanks again!

Don't worry about it not finding your wishlist programs yet. It can take some time for all of the guide data to show up on your TiVo.

Include me as one who was very impressed by this forum. I have to say it also was one of the deciding factors for me.
Thanks for all who replied to my questions - I waded through pages of searches before posting, but sometimes couldn't find the exact info I needed.
Happy to be a member!

I can just picture the commercial now...
Man walks in the front door carrying a large box marked 'TiVo'.
"Honey! Guess what I just got?"
Wife stands there, tugging her necklace, looking skeptical.
There's a knock at the door. Man looks at wife curiously, wife looks at man, shrugs. Man sets down the box and opens the door.
"Hello?"
A stranger enters, curiously at ease, given that he obviously doesn't know these people. "Oh! Don't worry about your wife! TiVo has a very high Wife Acceptance Factor!"
Stranger begins to open the box and set up TiVo, continuing to throw out advice as he works. The man starts to ask the stranger who he is as the wife looks on in confusion and the door knocks again.
Another stranger bursts in, "Set up a season pass for your favorite weather program with a Keep At Most of 1 and you'll have an up-to-date weather forecast at all times." He helps the first stranger carry the box over to the man's entertainment center and begins hooking up cables.
Another stranger enters. "Rather than giving thumb ratings to everything from the start--" It's getting hard to hear what everyone is saying, especially as new people keep entering the house and giving suggestions, tips, and advice as they join the co-operative TiVo installation. The man and his wife can do little more than move out of the way of all the bustle and activity and look astonished.
Voiceover: TiVo. It's not just a product, it's a community.
Cut to a black screen with a TiVo logo and another voiceover reading the words that appear beneath the logo. "Join the TiVolution."

Argh... Just when the ad was about to give me useful information.
What would the completion of that sentence be?

Uh....it's somewhere in here: http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-v...&threadid=71440
(What I was thinking was just let the TiVo give 1 thumb up to the shows you give a Season Pass to and give the occasional thumbs down to things you really hate.)
