WTF is Fox doing to the football picture?
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Just started watching the Giants/SF game and man-o-man is that picture horrible. The long shots are showing a lot of artifacts whenever the camera pans. I've never seen it bad like this on a Fox game. Anyone else noticing this?

Like this? KMBC finally fixed whatever they had wrong, maybe your Fox affiliate has become infected. :)

I don't think it's the same thing. It looks different (more like too much edge enhancement) than that thread's problem description. And it doesn't seem to be in every camera eitheer... just on a few of them.

The artifacts were very bad. The picture would actually stutter across the names on the back of the Jerseys.

I have a fairly old TV and I thought it was going. Thankfully others noticed it.
Horrible.

I was starting to think the aliens from "Independence Day" were orbiting the Earth! :D

I was watching the game in near-real time and I wondered what the hell was wrong witht the Tivo. Switching over to TV straight from the cable showed the same artifacts. Wow! What a bad transmission! Looked seriously over-compressed to me, but what do I know?

The field level shots looked fine, but the distant shots were horrible- kinda like my Giants halfway through the third quarter onward.

Since the problem was mainly noticeable when there were a lot of moving objects on the screen, I thought it looked like Fox had the network TiVo set to Basic quality instead of Best.

It seemed to me that vertical lines made the problem most noticeable. For instance, the referees running across the field looked positively surreal! The effect reminded me of The Matrix when they moved in super-fast/slow-motion. :p
Oh well, at least it wasn't just me.

Thanks to you all, I can cancel my eye appointment for today, I am not going blind!! My family could not see the distortions I tried to point out, and I almost thought I was having problems with my eyes. Nice to know I am okay, for now. I guess I may be going blind, but not from my TIVO...just too much internet porn, I guess.....LOL!

I thought my DTV was going out until I switched channels and saw it was only the game.
Very poor quality.

I'd just gotten 3.1 (for DTivo) over the weekend and was afraid there were PQ issues with the new software. I feel better.
Luckily the Jets are on CBS and the SuperBowl on ABC...
J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets!!!

The PQ was so bad that when the camera panned across the crowd, she was the one screaming at the television that it was hurting her eyes. :D
Sounds like this was a FOX problem, and not a DirecTV or affiliate problem...

Hmmm.....I didn't see any problems. Maybe Fox was downconverting their 480p widescreen to 480i standard? Watched it OTA on FoxDigital and it looked pretty good!

What I really can't stand about FOX's NFL coverage is that lame score-bar across the entire top of my television, reducing my little 27" GE picture to nothing.

At least I know I wasn't seeing things, PQ was horrible.
Which games this weekend do we get treated with that kind of picture, I may not bother to watch.
Even more annoying was the stupid sound effect when the score-bar went in & out.

I noticed the artifax also while watching direct off the cable, not through TiVo. FOX is one of the worst channels I receive, I'm glad it wasn't a local problem getting worse, and I hope it isn't a national problem here to stay.
