Pioneer A05 DVD-R/RW Computer Drive

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Convert

Thought some of you might be interested in some PR about the Pioneer A05. Just received this from Pioneer.

quote:
Our new high speed DVD-R/RW Computer Drive, the A05, is arriving in stores. It offers much higher speeds at a lower retail price then the award winning DVDR-A04.

Increased Speed

Pioneer has achieved 4x write speed to DVD-R and 2x to DVD-RW ahead of competing brands. Now it only requires approximately 10 to 15 minutes to burn a DVD-R disc rather then the 30 to 40 required by earlier drives. In order to achieve this speed you must use 4x recording media. The write speed of CD-R has been increased from 8x to 16x and CD-RW has been increased from 4x to 8x.

Liquid Crystal Tilt Technology

Previous models used a mechanical tilt mechanism. The DVR-A05 features a liquid crystal tilt mechanism that provides more accurate, reliable operation with discs having uneven curvature or thickness. This superior mechanism is used for both playback and recording.

Price and Where to Purchase

The suggested retail price is $299. Most large computer retailers carry our high speed computer drive. You can also purchase the drive online at www.videoguys.com or www.cdw.com or www.pcmall.com .

Included Software

Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 Basic
With Roxio's Easy CD Creator® 5.3 Basic, you can share music, photographs and data. Easy CD Creator is a pre-mastering application for audio, data, mixed mode, enhanced, and bootable CDs. But now, Easy CD Creator 5 includes support for pre-mastering data to DVD blank media.

Sonic® My DVD Version 4.0 with CinePlayer® 1.5
Sonic MyDVD combines two simple yet powerful video applications to provide users with advanced digital video editing and DVD authoring capabilities. From wedding videos to family vacations, MyDVD and ArcSoft's ShowBiz let you capture analog or digital video clips, add titles, transition scenes, include background music and special effects resulting in truly professional looking DVD titles complete with buttons, menus and backgrounds. DVD discs created with MyDVD can also be edited at any time without having to locate the original source materials and start all over again. Whether you produce a direct to disc DVD at the touch of a button or edit and add Showbiz special effects, MyDVD provides the power of professional DVD movie making.

ArcSoft® Showbiz® 1.1
ArcSoft ShowBiz offers powerful movie making tools through a simple control base. Making home movies from existing videos and still images is as simple as dragging and dropping files. The application includes several transitions and animated text effects to make your work look like it was done by a pro. Also, multiple soundtracks let you add background music and narration simultaneously.

Pinnacle Instantwrite
Pinnacle InstantWrite enables you to use your Pioneer DVR-A05 DVD-R/RW drive just like a hard disk or floppy disk. You can drag and drop files, create new directories right on your media and even save files from your applications (e.g. word processing, drawing, etc.) directly to your drive. Pinnacle's InstantWrite is a complete Universal Disc Format (UDF) packet writing application that supports CD-R/RW, DVD-R, and all UDF levels up to 2.01. Whether you're copying your whole hard disk or just one small file, InstantWrite can do it fast and easy in the same way as you would on your hard drive. Because InstantWrite writes the data in small packets no buffer under-runs can occur. Almost no additional space is needed so you can use the entire disc capacity for data storage.

Purchase the DVR-A05 online at http://www.videoguys.com or http://www.cdw.com or http://www.pcmall.com .

It's been out for a while now, I actually had one for a few weeks. However I returned it for teh Sony 500A.

Look around on some other forums, you'll find some bad stories about the A05.

Yeah, I read your thread about losing it because of the clerical error. And given the time frame in which you bought yours, I thought this (arriving today) was amusing. Also the listed price. If Pioneer says it costs "$299", you can imagine what it is on the street.

You sure saw this fast.

vertigo, I'm about to get into DVD burning in a big way. At which forum have you found the best, most well-balanced info?

Now that DVD X Copy is out I'm starting to look at this as well. What do blank DVDs run these days?
