Recently found this great web site and was encouraged to upgrade my old Tivo.
It was not a complete success and I need advice to finish the project

First of all , I'm not too technical, so it has been both a little project and a learning experience. The problem is getting the Tivo to recognize the full size of the new large B hard drive
Here is what have and what I've done so far.

Phillips standalone HDR 312 with one 30 gig hard drive
Used Hindsdale instructions from 12-16-02
Successfully backed up the A drive image to the new B drive, which is a Samsung 120 gig 5400
--as a side note it was one of the only 120 gig 5400 drives I could find, It was cheap and it has a three year warranty. It also seems to be very quiet and runs cool-- anyway

Put the image on the new B drive and tested it in the Tivo . so far so good.

Ran mfsadd and put it all back together

The new 120 gig B drive is only recognized as a 30 gig and I have only 67 hours of recording time when I was expecting about 150
The 30 gigs makes me think its not locked, so haven't run gunlock

The Possible problems seem to be:

1 . mfsadd didn't wipe out the image and open the partitions of the new drive

2. the old computer (a spare AMD K6 2-150 ) will not recognize a 120 gig hard drive
Using the floppy boot since the cdrom was disabled to power the recommended hard drive configuration

3. I didn't follow the instructions correctly---- Very Possible!!!
I did not include the (-s 127) when restoring

Can anyone with this experience or knowledge give me any specific suggestions of what to try next

Thanks in advance

Is the drive recognised as 32 GB? My Samsung had poor jumper diagrams. I accidentally jumped the 120GB drive as 32GB.

Thanks Steve,

I will check to be sure I have the right setting.

You are correct that the Samsung has two jumper diagrams and you have to read carefully to see that you need the second set of settings for drives over 30 gigs . It would be an easy mistake to make.

will check it out when I get home and report

I hope it's that easy
