Star Search - Not TiVo or West Coast Friendly

The new Star Search is supposed to include a home voting aspect, much like American Idol. They even claim that "America counts for half the vote". However, there's a catch. The two performers do their act, then they go to a commercial. As soon as they come back from the commercial, they give the results of the home audience voting. What this means is unless you watch the show live (not even delayed a few minutes), you can't vote. Worse yet, it completely excludes viewers in the Mountain and Pacific time zones from being able to vote. Something's wrong here. I could understand if it was just a problem for TiVo viewers, but it excludes half the country from voicing their opinions! They need to do what American Idol does and announce the result of the votes on the next show, giving everyone a chance to vote.

Uhh isn't the whole point of that show seeing who wins at the end of the episode? Who would want to wait a week or however long to see it? not that my opinion matters since im not gonna watch this show.

From what it sounds like, one of the allures of the show is the home audience participation, so regardless of what the point of the show is, they are giving the bird to half the country.

I have no plans to watch this show either, but due to the way the voting is set up, I hope it fails miserably. I'm sick of every show being geared towards the East Coast's time zone. I would like nothing better than to see this show fail because no one from the western half of the country watches it.

I agree with you. I don't think people are going to care who wins by the time the next week rolls around. I see no easy way to resolve the problem, except eliminating home viewer votes altogether. I do find it weird they didn't find a way to include those watching out west. Perhaps they could keep the window open until the show ends on the west feed, and announce the winners on the web site.

But then again, I won't watch it either. :)

This show sucked! It has none of the suspense of American Idol and you get too little time to get to know the contestants. We love American Idol, but we won't watch Star Search again (okay, maybe just the finals).

I watched five minutes of this horse manure. It is hosted by the most annoying TV personality EVER and the mere fact that Naomi Judd is a judge should tell you how wrong this is. At least American Idol was good for a few laughs. What a horrible show.

Yeah, the judges sucked!

At least the Judges in American Idol had some credibility. I don't care how many albums Naomi Judd has sold - I don't think she has it to judge some of those competitions. Same with Ben Stein and did it seem like Chaka Khan was on painkillers. She was way too laid back.

The only judge that seemed OK to me was Carol Leifer. Otherwise, put a celebrity agent on or a big time producer. At least Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson have the credentials to choose who should be a star.
