Where's the Enterprise "Dawn" thread?
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Unless I can't search, there doesn't seem to be one.
This was a good Enterprise, even for a nitpicker. No timeline gaffes, no stupid plot holes, and no glaring writing dilemmas. Of course, it was a typical, ticking-clock/hopeless obstacle style episode, but it was pulled off well. The only thing I even questioned was why the emergency pack in the shuttlepod doesn't have a phase pistol. Usually in a typical Enterprise, there are so many Why-doesn't-he-just's that I'm asking more questions than watching the show. Not so this week, and I for one think that the show might be worth keeping around after all. BTW, who was writing on this one?
Thoughts?

Stupid plot hole: Why was alien on Enterprise for treatment when alien's ship rescued them?

Also, this seemed like a good opportunity to build a climate controlled transporter room. Oh, this alien needs to arrive in 130 degree heat and bring it down to 72 degrees slowly enough that it won't kill him.

I just wanna know, at the point where they could beam up Trip, but he refused, why didnt they beam down an air conditioner or tent or at least water or something? Instead, they just left him to die...

They left Trip to die? (snif)

Did anyone think of Enemy Mine? He even looked a bit like Louis Gossett Jr.'s character.

I'll concede that, and it occurred to me. I explained it away by rationalizing that a military ship might not have the medical facilities available for treating such a condition, whereas Enterprise did. :D

Stupid plot hole: Why is Trip floating around in space 50K kilometersaway from Enterprise? Seems to me it would've been more logical for him to be reasonably closer to Enterprise...

Yep - sure did.
I LOVE that movie and that is the first thing I thought of when I started watching. Total bite from Enemy Mine.

Oh yeah, plus it lifted liberally from TNG's The Enemy and some from Darmok.
This second outing from former X-Files producer John Shiban (he previously wrote Minefield) was ok, (wobbles hand) although it dragged some in the middle (just like Minefield, at least it wasn't as boring)
A couple of things I noted:
Did Archer have gas in his first scene?
No phase pistols or plasma weapons in the Shuttlepod?
Why aren't Universal Translators standard equipment in a Shuttlepod?
We don't see the alien shuttle pick up Trip and the alien???? What the hell was that? Again, TIIC fail to show us the important moments. I don't know about you, but I thought it was a let down. That should have been the climax of the episode. For that, the episode looses points,
Grade C-

Yep....
I liked the episode, I just don't want to see Tripp crashed on a planet again alone for a very long time. This is the second time in a row I believe.
I was pondering though, this episode really brought out the survivalist attitude of Tripp. I don't think Reed would be able to survive. How the hell is this guy the security officer? It doesn't seem like he can fight his way out of a paper bag.

I was multitasking the whole time, the episode was too S-L-O-W for me, and I still couldn't keep full attention on it.
Can someone please inform me:
- why the alien shot down Trip's ship?
- why or how the alien's ship was shot down?
- what was the excuse/reason the alien's supreme commander gave for Archer to leave his quadrant (and why couldn't both ships be in the same place anyway?)?
- what authority does the alien supreme commander have kicking others out of "his" quadrant?
Sorry I didn't know these plot holes, er... finer points, from multitasking. Thanks in advance.

All because the aliens in question considered this system to be theirs, and Enterprise and trip to be trespassers.
The little alien ship was dispatched to deal with the little enterprise shuttle. Whether or not the alien pilot had Clarence to fire was never explicitly answered, though there was some indication that opening fire without due cause would not go over well with the alien's superiors.
The little alien ship, um, just kinda fell out of the sky. *Possibly* it tried to follow trip's shuttle down, and it's engines got mucked up by the muck in the atmosphere.

Nope, it's pretty clear. I just ran through the episode again, and I didn't see Clarence anywhere. :D

While I believe that there should have been a bit more information conveyed as to how the alien ended up there, I assumed that he was pursuing Trip (after damaging the shuttle) intending to "finish him off" when they both got caught in the atmosphere.

That's exactly what my wife said. The opening finished and she said, "Looks like a remake of Enemy Mine."

I concur....Enemy Mine remake.
However, that's not a bad thing in my mind. These are really the kind of episodes that I was expecting to see in a show about humanity exploring newfound space.
It's certainly a lot better than "A Night in Sickbay" (which, BTW, is next week's episode)

And Victor didn't give him his vector either.
