Would you like to be in a television documentary about Tivo?

Would you like to be in a television documentary about Tivo and how it
is changing peoples' lives?
Japanese Public Television (NHK) is producing a documentary about the
future of television, featuring the Tivo revolution. They are looking for a
family or group of friends who enjoy using Tivo in every day life. The
ideal location would be the Los Angeles, New York, or Washington DC
areas, but that's not carved in stone.
What would happen: A TV crew would come to your home. They would like
to film you using Tivo in your everyday life. For example, do you have a unique way of watching the Superbowl and other special events on Tivo?
(SuperBowl date is Jan. 26, documentary production
will continue through February).
How does Tivo make your everyday viewing experience different from conventional TV viewing and recording?
Because NHK is a public broadcaster, there would be no monetary payment
involved, but you might get some cool presents from Japan, and
of course, you will probably be seen by millions of Japanese people, each
of whom is free to decide that you rock/are really hot/should be a
star.
Most of all, you will have the opportunity to share your Tivo
experience and your enthusiasm for the Tivo revolution, with the people of Japan!
If you are interested, please PM me, or email me at
tivodocumentary@yahoo.com
Whether you are a participant in the documentary or not, under no
circumstances will any of your contact info go to anyone but the NHK
production people.
This project does not involve the selling or promotion of any
commercial product or service, I am only looking for people who would like to be
in the documentary.

I do. I let it get a few hours ahead and then watch the commercials, fast-forwarding through all that boring football, thus reversing the pattern I apply for the rest of the year. :D

I am not interested in being in it. But I would like to know more about it as it develops and when it is close to airing.

I'll pass; I've got enough "Hello Kitty" mousepads, thank you. ;)

We may be able to help, although we are in Atlanta. One plus for them would be that we speak Japanese at home.
I will have to check with my husband later, but put us on the list.
And then we can have our family tape it when it is on in Japan. :)

We'd probably do it, but also are not in your target areas.

I have a lot of respect for NHK Japan.
Their HDTV productions are top-notch. They provided a lot of cameras and support for the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City. Not to mention if you were in Japan, you could watch the US World Series in HD, but not in the US.

This sounds like fun, and a lot more my speed than Judge Judy. (inside joke) :)
Can I get some Kobe beef as my "prize" if I'm selected? :D

I'm bumping this for those who haven't seen it. I am sure a lot of folks will be interested, and with the CES conversations - it's dropping fast.....

"For example, do you have a unique way of watching the Superbowl and other special events on Tivo?"
Here's a strategy. TiVo the game. Watch it at 20x or 60x. When the "scoreboard" changes, back up and watch the drive that led to the score. Don't tell people you do this.

Call me skeptical but a real world documentary film company using a Yahoo e-mail address?

Sure. Most of us have real world addresses that we try to NEVER put on web site discussion forums. Or do you like Spam?
Treb.

If they had a half-competent postmaster, spam shouldn't be a problem.
Posted by: Dajad
Yes, the postmaster just sets up an e-mail address at the documentary film company's domain for this purpose ... then it is shut down once the solicitation is over.
I note that TiVoDocumentary has ONE post and has never returned...

I responded to the email and got a phonecall back that day. I had a nice conversation, apparently with the person who's posting here, and I can guarantee this isn't some kind of scam. They said they would pass on my information to NHK and I would hear "in a few weeks" if they decided to use me.
If anyone else gets contacted can you post here? I'm curious what my chances are of participating.

I sent a private message to the poster and got a response right away giving me a number to call.
I called and spoke to a very nice (American) woman who works for a company that specializes in lining up services for production companies. Her job was to find some people, screen them to make sure they weren't lying and/or psychos, and then pass the contact information on NHK.
Like the other poster, she talked long enough to determine that we were a family with TiVo, verified my contact information, and told me she would pass the information on to NHK, would may then contact me for the documentary. Because of the nature of television production, she couldn't give me any firm dates, but she was willing to answer my questions as best she could.
This was all about a week ago.
Of course, she also had a lot of questions about TiVo. She's the second person now I've talked to who is thinking about getting a TiVo because she had to research them a little for a television piece.

And, for the record, I called her too and gave her permission to post. It's legit folks.

I stand corrected ... and aside... good luck on the documentary! :)

I'm inerested. We own 7 TIVOS in our home. Two in my bedroom, one for my wife and one for myself. It's great!
I'm anxious for the new HD TIVO/Sat. When, When?
I also heard about the new services from the CES show; watch a show recorded on one TIVO in another room. Good for watching a show in my living room and finish watching it in my bedroom. Additional services offered, still looking into it.

Wow, if they are really NHK representative, that's great!
NHK is non-profit broadcast organization in Japan, like PBS in the US; however, there is a big difference. Everyone in Japan who has TV set has to pay small amount of monthly fee to NHK so that they can create new programs and broadcast commercial free TV show. NHK is as big as other major commercial network channels in Japan and creates high quality show. Their documentaries are highly respected and almost guaranteed being watched by 3-10% of population in Japan.
So, you may receive small amount of money or cheap mouse pads, but actual reward is you and your life style actually will be being watched by millions of people. If you interested in these kind of events, you should apply!

I promised to make this a sticky just for a couple of days and I forgot yesterday. This might be a fun opportunity for TiVo lovers.
I know this forum is cluttered with stickies so it won't be here long.

Sign me up. TiVo has completely spoiled my 4 year old. Can't understand why he can't watch what he wants whenever he wants when he goes to Grandma and Grandpas.

Gee, I wonder if they'd give some airtime to one of the pioneers of the TiVo upgrade industry. I've personally had a unit now for almost 3 years, and started the first business of offering upgrade kits and services for TiVo systems. Since then, the industry has matured quite a bit. Probably a perspective that's slightly different than you are suggesting, but we'd definitely have insights about the market that might be different than the typical.
Cheers,
Lou

Errrrr..... Ummmmm... Big difference?!?!?
Hmmmm. Maybe I can convince the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to give me those taxes back?
Back to topic: Maybe I should sign up so I can see my family on TV next time I cross the big pond.....

I might be interested in participating but I am a single person not a family. I have three Tivos and began using Tivo in 1999. It is an integral part of my life.

My unique way of watching TiVo is having a season pass for the ten o' clock news on FOX 5. That way, the next evening I can skim through yesterday's news in 5-10 minutes instead of having to watch the entire thing in an hour. I also don't miss any newscasts that way. And oh yeah, I have DirecTV with TiVo.
