For anyone still wanting an 80 GB 7200 drive and you don't mind waiting on rebates, just found this at Best Buy:

http://*******.com/4a48

Not sure if that link is session-specific, so if it doesn't work, go to www.bestbuy.com and search for WD800BBRTL.

On sale now, $129.99, two rebates totalling $50, free shipping, takes it down to $80. Plus taxes on the full price, where applicable, of course.

Found the bare drive for around $95 elsewhere, shipped, so I like this deal.

Rebates good through 01/11/2003, sent in by 02/11/2003.

In stock at my local store, I'll have it tomorrow afternoon. Transfer the files off my WD120 onto the 80, and the 120 gets paired with its sister drive in my main TiVo. :D Whoo-hoo!

PS I searched for this prior to posting... hope I didn't somehow miss it.

This is a great deal on a hard drive, but are you sure you want to put a 7200RPM drive in your TiVo? I had heard that they get too warm to work with the less-than-optimal cooling system in the TiVo box. Or is there a cooling mod that I just don't know about yet? Because 5400 RPM drives are getting harder to find!

Looks like the 100MB version is also having a rebate special.

Here's the rebate for $50:
http://www.compusarebates.com/rebat...PromoID=0302050

Here's the link to the product:
http://www.compusa.com/products/pro...uct_code=285833

$139.99 - $50 = $89.99 (final price)

That's less than $1/GB!!

Gonna walk down to my local CompUsa right now.

Don't buy it just yet. Did you read the rebate? The rebate is valid on purchases made between January 11th - January 18th. What'll you bet that the price of the drive goes up this Sunday....just in time for the rebate?
