I had totally forgotten about this show until tonight when I wast watching E True hollywood story and they mentioned an actor that was on the show. I remember watching the show and I really enjoyed it. That's one series that had an idea that I thought could really go places.

Oooh, I remember this show! I loved it! Alas, I was out of the country when it showed, so the seasons were sort of messed up and I almost never could watch it.
Damn, if only they showed it again...

Seaquest DSV Season 1 was quite good. It was an inventive concept - a submarine originally designed as a war vessel, but repurposed with a goal to explore the oceans, but still serving as a military vessel. It was a well executed, intelligent drama, a nice change of pace for broadcast TV. They even collaborated with Bob Ballard of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute on making sure the scripts were at least heavily based on scientific theory and fact, and he appeared at the end of each episode to give a brief scientific fact based on the episode that just aired.
So you know what comes next. Season 2 resulted in half the cast getting canned, being replaced with younger, hipper actors that looked good in wetsuits - especially the actresses, who were told to wear the wetsuits half-unzipped to expose the 18-34 Male Demographic grabbing cleavage. The scripts became weaker and more outlandish, and Bob Ballard was nowhere to be seen. Scripts began looking like B-movie plots, like "attack of the killer prehistoric alligator" and such.
Finally, in some obtuse attempt to make the show into Star Trek, they invented these aliens that Seaquest gets in contact with, who then transport them across space and time to help in some civil war. That did it... nail in coffin.
Yet they weren't done yet... they renamed the show "Seaquest 2032" for the last season, and attempted to undo the damage they did - brought the ship back to earth, brought back Lucas, but the damage had been done, and besides, they still didn't do enough to fix the show. Blissfully, the show was cancelled mid 3rd season.

I loved this show when it was on.
Didn't the SCI-FI channel run it in syndication for a while at some point?
I think I actually have a wish list setup for "SEAQUEST" on one of my TiVos.

I have all of the Seaquest DSV/2032 episodes on VHS tape in my closet. I taped the series when it aired on SciFi a few years ago.

Heh. I only caught the first couple of seasons of Seaquest DSV. None of this Seaquest 2032 stuff (when I came across it, I was confused). Thanks for clearing that up.
