How Do They Do That??

My wife and I rarely ever watch commercials anymore, so the other day when I was too lazy to retrieve the remote off the floor, we sat through an NBC promotion for a new program they were airing. As many of you noticed, TiVo asked if we wanted to record the show when it aired by pressing Thumbs Up.
How does TiVo do that? Does anyone know? Is that unique to NBC? If TiVo gets paid by networks to do that, it would be terrific revenue.
I guess I do miss out on somethings when I skip commercials :D

It's called TiVomatic. The network embeds some information in other portions of the signal that the TiVo picks up on. Pretty much only NBC is doing it right now. I wish all the networks were.

Actually, I believe they dropped that name a while ago. It's called "iPreview".
