Do the 40 & 80 hour Series 2 units from TiVo have the peanut remote with the 1<->2 switch on them for controlling two TiVos in the same room, like the $29.95 replacement peanut remote does?

I can't speak for the 40 hour, but the 80 hour does. I'd assume the new 40 hours do, and if I'm not mistaken they introduced the switch with the original AT&T 40 hour models.

Thanks! That's $29.95 that can be spent on a USB/ethernet adapter instead.

I ordered a 40 hour Series 2 TiVo in December, and it came with the switchable remote.

I'm thinking of ordering a series 2 60 hour refurbished, but my one hickup is that right now i have one sony and one philips, so no chance of any bad remote codes screwing up another box.
When i had 2 philips, occasionally the address codes would reset, so i'd be controlling both philips at the same time without knowing.
I'm assuming with the a-b switch, that's really not a possibility any more....

My AT&T branded 40 hour (buttons on the front version) has the peanut remote with the DVR 1/2 switch.

It still would be. The common cause of multiple Tivos setting themselves to the same remote is someone leaving one Tivo on the System Information screen while using the remote for the other one. When on the SI screen a Tivo will set itself to the code any compatible Tivo remote used in it's vicinity is set to. The switchable remotes don't change that.
If you have more than one Tivo in one room be careful about leaving any of them on the system information screen.

My series 2 60 hour does have the switch. It's the old USB kind.
EDIT OPPS I see you weren't asking about 60 hours. My mistake.
