Ha. I know this thread will bring back some I had forgotten about. That's why I left my fifth slot open. I liked but never got to love any of the other Star Trek series. Borg aside they became tamer than the original. The original was an intelligent action packed sci fi show in which there was usually a lesson to be learned. Subsequent series became all about the lesson. Voyager was practically Little House on the Prarie in space. Enterprise seemed like it would break away but never really did. I think Rick Berman just doesn't quite get it.

1. Babylon 5
2. X-Files (The early years)
3. Earth: Above and Beyond
4: Star Trek: DS9
5. Hmmm... maybe the Outer Limits?

I think you mean Space: Above and Beyond. ;)
- Firefly
- Farscape
- Space: Above and Beyond
- Star Trek: Deep Space 9
- Babylon 5

"Space: Above and Beyond". That's a real good one. That might compete with Firefly and The Outer Limits for my number five slot. Wasn't there a show about ten years back in which some humans were trying to colonize a far away planet with no support? Maybe called "Earth 2"?

The Twilight Zone 1959-1964
Max Headroom - The Series 1987-1988
Babylon 5 1993-1999
The Prisoner 1967-1968
Adventures of Brisco County Jr 1993-1994
Honorable Mentions:
Firefly 2002 -
Eerie, Indiana 1991
The Jetsons 1962-1963
Star Trek (the original series)
Star Trek (animated series)

Yup. Wasn't bad at all. Not really sure why it didn't make it. Government conspiracies. Criminal masterminds. Greedy morons. Hot chicks. Ex-Soap Opera hunks. Weird aliens with "Super abilities".
Pretty much a good recipe all around I thought.

1. Doctor Who
2. Babylon 5
3. Farscape
4. The Prisoner
5. Lexx
...And in the category of "TV too good for TV:"
Firefly, Max Headroom, and The New Fantasy Island.
Max Headroom especially was way ahead of its time, and probably more timely now than it ever was.
I really like The X-Files and Buffy, too, but don't consider them SF.
Make of that what you will.
Dave :)

I agree. While I suppose it's erroneous, I usually only consider shows to be science fiction if they involve fictional technology, not just fictional life forms.
Anyone mention E:FC yet? They had a couple good years.

1) Farscape
2) Babylon 5
3) Star Trek (TOS)
4) First 5 Years of X-Files
5) Stargate SG-1
Other Items
Best Show Whose Run was Way too Short - Firefly
Best Show Whose Run was Way too Long - X-Files

1) Babylon 5
2) Buffy
3) Farscape

3) Star Trek: Enterprise

I enjoyed the first season and a half of EFC. I was really looking forward to an exciting resolution of a very interesting storyline. And then the program self-destructed. Blecch. I suspect Gene Roddenberry must have written an outline for the beginning of the story, which was then resolved by the usual gang of ST idiots.

Actually, I think he had a basic premise for the show, Majel found it and marketed the hell out of it. She seems to be all about raping Gene's corpse for every last cent she can get. For the record, I actually enjoyed Season 1. They had some great ideas, and I really liked Boone. Once they killed him off, it just wasn't the same show. I watch the first 5 or so episodes of Season 2 and gave up. I went back and watched part of a new episode from alst year... Boy, am I glad I left when I did. Talk about self-destruct!
Along the same lines, I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the premise for Andromeda was actually suppossed to be about a Starfleet captain trying to rebuild Starfleet after it was conquered. They modified it so that it wasn't Start trek and made a new series. Here's ANOTHER "Roddenberry" series that self-destructed after a season and a half. I enjoyed it right up to they point that they "rebuilt" the Commonwealth. Although, it was pretty strange that a 300+ year old ship was the most advaced thing out there.

Amazing isn't it? Some of what they showed is just downright freaky. With what the MPAA, RIAA and networks are up to these days, I'm not surprised anymore by the show's plots.
Anyway, my list:
Babylon 5
Star Trek:TOS
Stargate SG-1
Farscape
Dr. Who
I can't really place any one above the other.
Posted by: Rogue3
1. Stargate
2. Star Trek TNG
3. Battlestar Galactica
4. Buffy
5. Sliders

Remembering ... that animated Star Trek series was pretty good wasn't it. Wasn't there a comedy in the 80's about a space garbage truck with a crew that included a half man / half woman? I think I remember that being pretty funny although it wouldn't make a top 5 list. I think the Showtime Total Recall was very good and getting better when they axed it.

Never saw the show but I found this Link:

Other favorites:

- Max Headroom (although I should say...loved it as a kid, found it very silly watching it again now)
- Psi Factor - little syndicated show out of Canada starring Matt Freuer (of Taken and Max Headroom). Had 2 really good seasons before it went into the toilet. It's still on, although I don't even have a season pass for it.

I'm no good at these lists. B5 would probably be at the top, but it had some pretty bad acting and writing at times. TNG would be on there, but after around season 5 it got a little wierd. E:FC should be at the top, but somehow the show disappeared after one season, and got replaced with some disabled clone of itself. Firefly should also be near the top, but it just disappeared.

1> Firefly (short lived, but it was really humming at the end)
2> Red Dwarf
3> Futurama

I really loved this show. My favorite sci-fi Tv show, I should have made it #1 on my list. If you love good scifi buy the DVD kick back and watch the best.

When I started this post I left my fifth slow as "to be determined". I've decided that it should be filled with "Space: Above and Beyond". That was an excellent sci fi effort dismissed early by Fox's itchy trigger finger.

Unfortunately, the release seems to be on indefinite hold. I would love to see one though.

1. Firefly. (Dagnabiceholefargin Fox executives....)
2. Space: Above and Beyond. (Dagnabiceholefriggin Fox executives....)
3. Cowboy Bebop. (Just too cool.)
4. Thunderbirds. (I'm extremely immature, what can I say)
5. Blakes 7. (had 1 run on Dallas PBS, had a fund raiser, I gave the only pledge)
Honorable mentions to Red Dwarf and whatever that British show was in the early 70's where the secret anti-UFO force defended the world by launching fighters from their moon base and submarines. You know, the one with all the hot chicks in crazy future mini-skirts.

That would be UFO (by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson, the same people who brought you Thunderbirds and later Space: 1999.)
