HFC !!! What a great episode!

I knew that Sherry was going to be a back-stabber... just wasn't sure in what role. Of course, this is only what the producers have shown us.

As for Kate - in hindsight, you could see the setup for the shooting (BTW, looks like Rezya won't be joining us for any more episodes).... but still, it was a shocker (as was the Sherry phone call).

I liked the beginning as well.. you had a feeling that Nina wasn't going to get away with it. Also, Jack's reaction when she was re-handcuffed (looking so serious and then a brief smile at the end). Though - what the heck did he whisper to her ?

Only have one complaint...

3 WEEKS !!! What the heck is going to be so important for Fox on Tuesday nights that they have to make us wait this long (after waiting over the Christmas Break!)

Posted by: disco

I know...3 weeks!! ESPECIALLY after the preview of the next hour!! This show CONTINUES to surprise me!! Enough to end every sentence with two exclamation marks!!:)

Posted by: Rob Helmerichs

Geez Louise, it's getting so you can't trust anybody around here!

Posted by: MalachiNY

I DITTO all you guys!!!

Even though I saw the "sweet lil' daughter" thing coming ... For the life of me I didn't see the Sherry doing it to the Pres AGAIN!

I guess it is how the saying goes ... "Fool me once; shame on you, Fool me twice; shame on me"

Well ... SHAME ON ME!!! I didnt see coming!

And Yeah ... I wonder what Jack said to Nina ... I like that they kept it from us though... Our imaginations are going crazy out there!

I kinda saw the Sherri twist coming. the amount of data that the ex-Mrs prez was able to get her hands on was just far too much.

The innocent daughter, I figured that one out when she first entered the office to talk with Reyza. I thought she was going to do it then.

And chalk another point in for Kim in the let's do something stupid parade.

Posted by: vertigo235

When I saw the preview from last week I knew about the little daughter. I knew it had to be someone we already knew pretty well. And I knew it wasn't Kate.

As for sherry I didn't expect it but it doesn't surprise me of course.

The exact reason I do not watch the end of episode previews

Next week is American Idol. The week after is the SOTU address.

Haven't they heard of 8 or 10 pm ? Or even another day ? :D

Posted by: Chandler Mike

Yes, another "Kim runs" scene...how many of these can they get into the show each season?

Also, I think Marie and Syed Ali are either dating or secretly married. We now know the connection as Kate stated her family was in Arabia when she was younger.

Awesome episode, but 3 weeks it hideously long to wait.

Did it strike anyone as odd that Jack used a SHOTGUN to take out the torturer? Okay I know this is 24 it just seemed a little far fetched.

Posted by: bdjncox

That's because he used a less-than-lethal bean bag round. Its actually a bean bag that is shot out of the gun which incapacitates the suspect/offender. It's a very common law enforcement tool when you want to get out of a sticky situation without killing the guy.

Of course, the suspect having cyanide pills can throw a wrench in that plan.

Posted by: GoodN

Penny Johnson Jerald (Sherry Palmer) is an amazing actress. I never saw her duplicity coming. (And why is she in Los Angeles if there is a real chance of the bomb being detonated?)

I'm waiting for the Kim subplot to intersect with the real action, so I'll just endure it until then.

And although I figured Marie for the traitor last week, I'm not sure why she is trying to cover her tracks. If CTU hadn't interrupted her plans, she be on her honeymoon, and her family would be dead. Why is she hanging around?

Bottom line, great show. Now its time to watch tonight's episode of "The Shield"! And its going to be a long 3 weeks.

Posted by: tonyoci

I think most of use predicted Marie last week, but I cannot figure out WHY she did it. If there really is a bomb and her plans had not be disturbed she would have been getting married and been in the vicinity of the bomb.

I kept hoping they would not do the fairly obvious and have Sherry be a back stabber but with the whole special forces/ Roger Stanton deal I still have no idea where this is going.

The better the rest of the show gets the more stupid Kim's pointless asides seem.

I know!. Hmmm, let's crash the cop car so we kill the cop and possibly kill or paralyze ourselves. Great idea!

I wish Sherry Palmer would stop saying "with all due respect."

I did think this was a good episode. Why would people within the US government want to detonate a nuclear bomb in LA? Very interesting plot twist.

Perhaps they don't. It might all be a ruse or maybe they enlisted help from Sayed and he went down his own path. If they did know then it would certainly be a way to discredit and destroy a president.

"Next Week on 24:"

Kim Bauer runs from the scene of the accident and decides that she is feeling warm (after all it is a nice sunny California day). To cool off she goes to a store and buys a bikini and goes for a swim at the beach. She is tired, after all, of thinking about all of this bomb stuff. However, Kim spots Sayed Aleih sunning on the beach, gets scared, and runs....and runs....and runs.....from 6pm until 8am.

Hey, I first called it Jan 8th.
Sherry's incessant duplicity is SO obvious to me that I've lost respect for the President as a character. C'mon. She is just too timely in her "arrival" and has too much access to info. She's a over the top caricature of power hungry people like Hillary Clinton. The fact that the otherwise intelligent and decisive commander-in-chief is so totally oblivious to this, given their past history is too hard to swallow.

Other disappointing plot trends includes the tired Hollywood cliche of secret US military group run amok. Like this has happened so many times in our country's history.

And to my shock and surprise, Kim in another accident and fleeing again. Who'd a thunk it?

Too funny! :D

Is anyone annoyed with the way the cop handled the fire? Obviously a real cop wouldn't try to put it out while driving. He would slam on the breaks then try to put it out instead of causing an accident. What dips Kim and her boyfriend are, they belong together. I hope the cop dies and she's tried for his murder.

When the daughter came to work and talked to Reza I knew she was in on it, but I thought she might try to break him out. When I saw her purse I assumed she had a gun in it.

I also figured Sherry was still backstabbing the pres. How did she get all that info and why is she just telling him all of it. I thought he'd get suspicious when she told him about the thing that got ressurected then gave him a password to get into the system.

Yeah, that's something that always amazes me about TV Land. On Earth, when we're driving down the road and something goes catestrophically wrong, we stop the car. In TV Land, that thought has never occurred to a single person! :D

I think she really tipped her hand with this whole underground communications thing. But up until then, I wasn't sure which side of the fence she was on. And I still wasn't 100% until she made the phone call.

I don't find the president's behavior hard to swallow at all. You see what you want to believe. It's obvious he still cares for her, or she wouldn't still be there. At any rate, I wouldn't be surprised if we find out that he's actually playing her--keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

I too believe that the Pres is playing her along and knows about her involvement.

I think it's time we start writing some "kim bauer is stupid" song lyrics.......

I start with a first verse and chorus sung to the tune of "Ready to Run" by the Dixie Chicks:

When the cops roll by
I'm gonna be ready this time
When the nanny-daddy gets that look in his eye
I'm gonna be ready this time
When my fans say I look good in white (http://www.spacecoastbob.com/frame/...1024elisha2.jpg)
I'm gonna be ready this time

Oh yeah
Ready, ready, ready, ready...ready to run
All I'm ready to do is make the guys have some fun
What's all this talk about plot

Sung to Goodbye Earl:

Jack Bauer and Nina were sort of friends
All through their government job days
Both members of the CTU
Both active in the NSA (well, ok, but it sounds good)
After Season 1 Nina went out lookin'
for a darker world
Jack looked all around this town
and all he found was Kim

Well it wasn't two hours
after Kim got arrested
Her brains started gettin' abused
She put on dark glasses and tiny bikinis
And make-up to cover her [sort of rhymes with bikinis]
Well she finally got the nerve to run once again
She hoped the law wouldn't take her from there
But Kim walked right through that restraining wall
And put herself in intensive care

Right away Jack flew in from LA
On a red eye 5-6pm flight
He held Nina's hand as they
worked out a plan
And it didn't take long to decide

That Kim had to die
Goodbye Kim
That pea-sized brain
It seemed alright to her
You're feeling weak
Why don't you lay down
and sleep Kim
Ain't it dark (nope, it's the glasses silly)
Wrapped up in that tarp is Kim

For Kim

'Run Run Run Run Run Away'

Or

'Born To Run'

Posted by: laria

I am wondering if Sherry isn't actually good and she's pretending to be bad to get in with Roger Stanton.

After all, she IS using an iBook! ;)

Posted by: brahamt

I felt a little cheated by the whole "Well we lived in Saudi Arabia" thing.

That would have definitely cast the family in a different light. That seems like information "Intelligence" officers would have known and asked Bob and family about.

I agree, we all saw the Marie thing coming, we knew Kim would do something dumb, we knew Sherri was the betrayer (though we are not sure why) and we knew Jack was not going to be shot by Nina.

Other than that it was a night of great TV. 24 and the Shield were the highlights.

Posted by: Dancar

Kim.... Too dumb to live, too bouncy to die... ;)

Posted by: justapixel

I agree with everyone - what a good, fun night of TV!

I suspected Sherry all along. I figured she was creating this whole problem to get back in the President's good graces. Remember, she's incredibly power hungry, and I wouldn't put anything past her - including having the President taken out so she can somehow run the country.

As for Marie, I knew it was her early on in the show, but I didn't all along. I wonder how her sister is going to play into it. Is she really an innocent?

I liked the way Jack drew Nina out to be shot. And, that little smile he gave was great. I hope that he wins the Emmy this year, he deserves it.

Kim needs to die. Her "plot" line is just plain distracting.

Posted by: Graymalkin

Too bad they canceled Baywatch. Kim would be perfect.

And she'd be cast as the "smart" one.

As for Marie -- Sydney Bristow would kick her fanny six ways to Sunday.

Posted by: Chandler Mike

Well, my two cents into the plot is this:

Palmer knows what Sheri is up to, or he doens't trust her as much as we think he's starting to.

And Marie and Syed Ali are secretly lovers, or married or something. The fact that her family lived there before seems to point to that.

Why else would a woman like her be doing this? She must be working for someone, and it's probably because she's in love with whoever she's working for.

We shall see!

Mike

I second that. There was a moment of doubt in Palmer's eyes right before he told Sheri how much he appreciated her help. I think he knows somthing's fishy in Denmark, and he's playing her. With any luck, she'll lead him right to the conspirators.

Posted by: AgentMunroe

One possibility (although I realize it's exceedingly unlikely) that I've thought of is that perhaps Sheri is playing Stanton to help David along, but without the knowledge of the president. Sort of baiting Stanton along to his eventual downfall. I realize it's a bit of a stretch, but from what I remember of the conversation there wasn't anything that was that incriminating.

Just speculating. I'll be as shocked as any of you if it turns out to be true.

Posted by: RickStrobel

I'm thinking there's a possibility Sherry really is working for David. If she and Stanton were really a team would she have given up all that information so quickly? My judgement may be clouded because I didn't see the first series so I don't know anything about her.

I've said it before and I'll say it again -- it's too damn late in the day! A real terrorist wouldn't wait for everyone to drive home to the burbs before they struck!

Also, anyone keeping score of how many people have been killed by, or around, Jack Bauer since this thing started? Seems like every scene he's in there are dead people.

Think about the first season... same thing! Just about everyone that Jack got close to died soon after.

By my crude count, I would say 12 people have died because of or in the presence of Jack.

Have you ever been to LA at drive time? If I were a terrorist, that is when I would strike. Everyone out in the open, no time to reach a bomb shelter, spread the radiation. And with the pure pandemonium that is LA drive time, no one would get out.

Jeez, that is morbid.

Posted by: Rob Helmerichs

Brahamt, you've obviously been thinking about this too much. And your handle sounds vaguely Arabic.

I'm reporting you to the FBI!

Posted by: brahamt

Don't worry, I'm sure they were on their way when I hit the Submit reply button.

Posted by: RickStrobel

Something else bothers me. What the hell do you mean you don't know what Sayed Ali looks like!!!??? You mean you've got all this great intelligence about a big shot terrorist leader and you don't know what he looks like? They fingered Raysea because he was seen with this guy, right? Maybe I missed something.

Posted by: loopey

No Reza was fingered because the company he works for - his fiance's father's company - did some transactions with Sayed.

Hmmm...

1 - Scumbag witness (by Jack)

1 - Telephone repair guy (in presence of Jack)

3 - Eddie and two other CTU bombers (by Jack)

1 - Joe Wald (in presence of Jack)

3-4? - Bad guys in Antique shop (by Jack and other agents)

1 - Faheen (in presence of Jack)

3? - pilot and two FBI agents in plane (in presence of Jack)

5-6? Paramilitary guys (by Jack and by CTU agents)

1 - torture guy (in presence of Jack)

So at least 19, maybe more. And that doesn't count everyone killed outside of Jack's presence.

Speaking of TV-Land, it seemed pretty obvious to me that when the cop looked back to see if Kim was up to anything, he could have seen her hands perfectly well.

It was only our POV that couldn't see anything below her head.

Don't worry about it. The whole Kim story is irrelevant, hence the minutia of the characters is even less important on that story line.

Now that's true unless Kim is in league with Marie in some kinds of Blondes Against America (BAA) coalition ?

T

Posted by: DanT

No, no, no. Kim is going to start hitchhiking to get out of there, and just happen to get picked up by Sayed Ali.

Either that, or she's going to get hit by a car, and have amnesia, and forget that there's a bomb in LA, so she goes back to CTU looking for her dad.

We missed the first 10 minutes as the channel changer didn't work.

How did Jack get out of the predicament of the lady terrorist holding a gun to his head and having permission to kill him?

What happened?

Posted by: cheerdude

Behind the Scenes (i.e. not on screen) - When the President gave Nina the pardon for killing Jack, he also instructed a sniper to position himself to get a good shot at Nina. What was later mentioned on screen was the shot was to wound and not kill her.

On Screen - Jack sees the sniper setting up and realizes whats going on. Nina is very protected in the gulley and the sniper cannot get a shot. Jack stands up, starts talking trash at Nina and begins to slowly move away from her.
Nina sees this and gets up to keep the distance between the two the same... she gets out in the open just long enough for the sniper to fire... knocking her down.

Not sure if you saw this part or not... but as Jack is being led past Nina, he whispers something into her ear. We are not sure what was said... but it has basically scared the c**p out of her (she has the look that she did in CTU when Jack threatened her).

Here are my guesses as to what Jack told Nina that frightened her so:

1. "When we do '24: The Movie' Kim's getting 20 mil."
2. "Those fatigues make your ass look big."
3. "Next week, we're being pre-empted by 'American Idol'."
4. "Rupert Murdoch might end up owning DirecTV."
5. "Tampa Bay is in the Superbowl."
6. "You're being transported to L.A."
