Scientific Atlantic - Digital Audio?

I have a Scientific Atlantic 3200 cable box. I have a Series 2 80 hour Tivo and I am running the audio to a Sony Receiver. On the back of the cable box is a RCA jack labled digital audio? Can I be getting better audio by utilizing this to send the audio to the Tivo? How?

SA TiVos do not support Digital Audio. If you bypass the TiVo and hook the digital output up to your receiver then you will have de-synched audio/video.

Maybe I 'm missing something simple here, but I only have a single RCA jack on the cable box. I think I need a left and a right audio for the Receiver input, right?

if it's digital audio, that single RCA jack is a DIGITAL bit stream, meant to go to a digital coax input on an audio receiver.

Thanks! I am getting the digital audio now! Another question... If I use the S-video cable, does it transmit digital audio or do I need this connection as well?

No, s-video only carries video signal, you'll still need either the regular RCA or the digital connection to get audio.

I realize this is getting off the subject of Tivos, but I have one more question.
I've got the digital Cable box(Charter Communications, Fort worth TX is the provider) and I my receiver is auto-detecting a variety of digital audio signals on the HBOs and the like. Is there ever a time when the networks broadcast(and Charter passes on to me) digital audio? My network channels are all between 2 and 11 and thosechannels are avialble without the box.

I don't believe there are any local broadcast stations that are broadcasting digital audio, but I could be wrong.

Around here, with Cox Digital cable I've only seen a digital audio signal on HBO/SHO/TMC, I doubt that any other channel is broadcasting a digital signal, plus we have a hybrid system where all channels < 100 are analog anyway.
