HDVR2 Upgrade -- Hang on Starting Up...

Well, all was going great there for a while. Followed Hinsdale's instructions to add an 80GB Baracuda to my HDVR2, everything was working. Showed 106 hours and everything, but that was before securing the drives. Once I did that, I couldn't get the IDE cable to reach. I tried a few options, like using a longer 40-pin cable I had, but that didn't work. I then tried reversing the cable (putting the blue end into the A drive rather than the motherboard) because the instruction said sometimes that works, but it didn't (I did make sure to keep the red wire on the correct side in all cases). But now, I can't get it to boot up at all, even with the original cable setup. I just hang on the Starting Up screen, and can hear the drives accessing. I have double checked that my A drive (original drive) is set to Master and hooked up last on the cable, and my B drive (new one) is set to Slave and is in the middle.

I suppose the thing to do is restore to my 80GB and see if I can at least get back running that way, to rule out any system problems. Anybody have any other ideas before I do that?

Also, if I do restore the A drive image to the new drive and it works, will I be able to just repeat the mfsadd command to restore the drive to being drive B again? I assume that if I end up restoring the A image to the A drive, I will lose my recorded programs (sigh).

Thanks for any help.

Never mind. Did a restore and it came back. Guess something I did zapped the A drive.

For future reference, if you are doing a reversed cable, you generally need to get the Master at the end of the chain.

Thanks, I did finally get that figured out. I was using the 9th Tee bracket, and ended up needing to switch the locations of the two drives to make it work, with the original drive in the new bracket, and the new larger hard drive in the original bracket.

What do you mean "it showed 106 hrs and everything"? Because there's now way to tell on an HDVR2 how much total time there is.

Well, I just went to System Information and it says 106 hours under capacity. Not sure why the HDVR2 would be different in this respect from any other TiVo...?
