What are your favorite Hershey's Minatures?
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)
Posted by: Turtleboy
Someone in my office always brings in a bag of Hershey's minatures, and the same thing always happens. Within a day, all of the Krackels are gone, then the regular Hershey's, then the Mr. Goodbar, and then the Special Dark (yuck).
It's obvious that the Krackels are the favorite. So in addition to asking what are your favorite, I'm wondering. How come Hersheys dosen't make a full size Krackel bar to compete with Nestle's Crunch (or do they)? How come they don't sell bags of minis with only Krackels (or do they)?
How come when there's a bowl of them on the table, I can't stop eating them (or can I?)
Posted by: cbordman
Growing up, i thought everyone's favorite was Special Dark. But now, i'm learning that most people don't like the dark chocolate.
Ever have Lindt chocolates? Those are goood!

Hershey used to have a full size Krackel bar back in the 70's.
Posted by: jsmeeker
Special Dark all the way!!
I even use it for cooking/baking. Not the minatures, of course. But Hershey makes Special Dark bars in a 7 or 8 oz. size.

Here you go. I love them, too. But there is something about minitures. I like the Reese's Peanut butter cups better miniture. I wish it meant I ate less.
I am also surprised that the other companies don't do this. I would love mini twix with 3 muscatteers, you can have the snickers, I don't do nuts in candy.

You could put all the larger bars in a bowl and say "wow, what happen to the miniatures." Sorry, easily amused here.

Special dark are the /best/. The less sweet the chocolate, the more chocolate it actually contains. (Well, chocolate liquer, which is, of course, the bestest part.)
And few people seem to like the SD, so when someone brings them in work, I'm always set.
I saw a show about them (Unwrapped, maybe?) where they gave the ratios of each bar to the bag.
I did find this, though:

Mmmmmm! Special Dark! :)

Special Dark all the way!

Y'all serious?
Ok, next time we each buy a bag, I'll trade you my special dark for your krackels. :)

DEAL!
You pay shipping. :)

Also, with the dark it seems people either love them or hate them. My wife loves them. I hate them. I won't even eat them.
Also, does anyone remember when they use to make an extra think bar? I think Krackel was one of them. I think it was the same length and width but the height was like 5 times as big.

Krackel!!!

I'm glad to see some people here have taste. I'll never understand why so many people like their beer, wine, coffee, chocolate, *whatever* to be a pale imitation of what it should be. Special Dark, mmmm
Posted by: dphelps1
Special Dark are my favorite - I save them for last!
When I was a kid my favorite was Mr. Goodbar, which is now my least favorite.
Now the order pretty much goes like this:
Special Dark
Regular Hershey
Krackel
"Hey, who ate all of the Hershey Miniatures?"
Mr. Goodbar
Posted by: KRS
I saw that Unwrapped. I think the ratio put the regular Milk Chocolate at the top, with Special Dark the lowest of the bunch. I think the others were fairly even. The poll results thus far would suggets that Hershey should do some more research - Special Dark has a pretty good lead. That's what I voted for..

Krackel :)
Posted by: Graymalkin
Special Dark here, followed by Krackel. You can keep the milk chocolate.

That's the exact opposite of my list. :)
I love dark chocolate, but not the Hershey's version. I guess I'm not a big Hershey's fan in general, since it appears I prefer it masked with peanuts or crispy rice bits. :)

Special Dark rocks, but I'll take Krackel in a pinch.

Out of the Hershy's miniatures.....
I prefer in order:
Mr. Goodbar
Hershy's Special Dark
plain
and anybody else can have the Crackel.
Good thing Inigo likes the Crackel first then the plain, so it works out in our house. :)
I really like dark chocolate, but I like many chocolate candies, so I'm pretty easy to please.
Has anybody tried the snickers cruncher bar? It's actually pretty good. I hate all of the new styles they put out and then get rid of. I tried a cruncher when my son had all of his halloween candy (he only eats reese's pbc's). I liked it. Reminded me of whatchamacalit's.

Hershey's chocolate is very sweet, especially after enjoying some of the Lindt or Ghiradelli chocolates.
At least I have a partner in the 'TiVo Community Hershey Miniature Swap'!
;)

Krackel rocks. You can keep your Special Dark. I like my chocolate milky sweet, not all dark and bitter.

Crunchers rock. And you're right, it is exactly like a Whatchamacallit plus peanut bits.
Mmmm, crunchers...

Whenever we have miniatures at my office, my coworker Beth and I immediately go digging for Special Darks and hord them. I'll eat any of them when the special darks are gone, but they are BY FAR my favorite.

I also like the mini PB cups better too. It's because the chocolate to PB ratio is higher. Try poking out the middle of a full sized PB cup. Tastes good.

FWIW, Cook's Illustrated magazine ranked Hershey's Special Dark very highly when it did some taste tests on bitter-sweet chcocolates, coming in just behind some very fancy European brand widley used by pastry chefs. The Hershey's is widely available, and the price is right.

If I could buy a bag of only Special Dark miniatures, I would.
Anyone want to start the swap program?

Special Darks are my favorite!
My grandmother used to separate them in a special candy dish just for me when I was a little kid. She wouldn't let my sister or anyone else have them!

I chose Milk Chocolate in the poll, but I generally eat a Hershey and a Special Dark at the same time.
Goodbar's used to be my fave as a kid too, now I just throw 'em at people.

Another vote for Special Dark.     :D

Maybe this is a regional thing; I don't think I know ANYBODY who's native to the South that things SD is the best. I do know one Michigan transplant who thinks they're boffo. Not that I'm against dark chocolate; Scharffen Berger makes some excellent stuff.
When it comes to Hershey's Miniatures, it's Mr. Goodbar all the way, baby!

Ummm...I'm native to the South, and while I realize you don't actually KNOW me, I am very much partial to the SD, as mentioned above.

In my experience, when putting out a bowl at home or work:
Krackels are the first to go -- wide appeal
Special Dark 2nd -- fewer people like them, put those that do are passionate about them
Hershey's next -- but only after people who are hunting around for a Krackel or Special Dark realize that they're all gone
Then you have a bowl of Mr. Goodbars left that nobody wants

Another vote for Special Dark here.
But my favorite Hershey miniture (although it doesn't come in the regular assortment) is the Hershey Symphony with almond and toffee chips. Yumm!

This is a lot different than the one posted before. Hope you like it.
I'm a Goodbar person myself
If you like Milk Chocolate, you....
All American: you love baseball, mom, and apple pie.
A cheerleader for our programs; level-headed; a good PR person and a great fund-raiser.
Kind and thoughtful; you always remember everyone's birthday.
Playful
Nurturing and help others shine.
Dependable and loyal.
the kind others turn to for help
If you like Krackel, you are...
creative and optimistic; you always see the cup as half full.
messy (desk or office), but organized; you eventually find a missing item or believe you will.
a hands-on person.
a little off-beat, funny, friendly, and out-going.
always willing to help.
appreciative of the surprising things in life -the "crackle."
happiest in situations that allow flexibility, change, and growth.
If you like Mr. Goodbar, you are...
analytical and logical; you can analyze things to death.
prone to gather data before giving an opinion.
good at playing the devil's advocate at meetings.
likely to see all the possibillities in a situation and drive others crazy by sharing all the "what if's."
not a fan of deadlines; you put off starting project and could be called a procrastinator.
fond of being an expert, but work in your own time frame.
most confortable when there are rules that everyone follows: you like structure and hate surprises.
If you like Special Dark, you are...
patient and thoughtful; an individualist and a problem starter.
prone to seeing a project through from start to finish.
a good grant writer.
insightful and reflective; you work well with difficult people.
not patient with incompetent people or liars.
likely to set high standards for yourself and others.
dependable and resourceful.
loyal.

I buy Lindt all the time...their truffles are the best!!
I brought a ton of it back from Zurich several years ago. Their factory is there, and I was such a geek and took a picture of the place.

Hmm, why is it I've never even heard of Special Dark before? I LOVE dark chocolate!
I'm also a big fan of the Mr. Goodbar and Krackels

Vehemently.
But that just gives you an excuse to eat two of them to make up for the deficit, doesn't it? ;)

My local store has the giant size Special Dark bars for like $1.29 or somethng like that. I break down occasionally and get one of those monsters since I can't find any size between the miniature and the giant.

Can someone ftp me some Special Dark minitures? :D

For the dark chocolate fans, try Starbuck's Dark Chocolate bar. *Very* tasty. But sometimes, they can be a little hard to find. I've noticed that not all of the stores always stock them. Next time you are in a Starbucks, look for them and buy one.
I think its cool that there are so many dark chocolate fans here. This forum has good taste.

I think so too! If there's nothing but Hershey's (I'll take it, but it's not a favorite.), I'll have Special Dark. But I like Ghirardelli milk chocolate. It's almost like dark chocolate, at least compared to other brands. The Ghirardelli dark is a little too bitter for me. My favorites are the drops. For some reason, they're silkier tasting. The squares and bars have the same taste, but they're more solidly 'frozen.'

Special Dark - it's the chocolate candy for adults. (I always sneak most of them out before DW, hide them, and complain how Hershey's never provides enough of them. I do save a few though, I'm not _that_ bad).

Well, I'm a counter-example, unless you're one of those folks that doesn't consider Florida to be the 'real South'. ;)

OK, it's pretty obvious that we need to start a "Hershey's Miniature Exchange" program here on the forum.
Here's how it works. Everybody purchases their miniatures as before. We post how many we have of the three that we don't want, and, well, you can figure out the rest.
Of course, I don't know how we're going to satisfy all of these SD people! Us Mr. Goodbar folks should be in heaven!
:)

Well, there's this for the well-heeled SD fanatic.
Or this if you just want miniatures -- at a price.
Or here for a carton of SD bars. I have no idea if this store is really safe for shopping. Caveat emptor.
And at this Web site SD rates first with 72% of respondents! Go figure.

I like the Special Dark, but only in the miniatures, the regular size, king and giant bars are just too much. A little goes a long way in this case.
As for the rest of the miniatures, I like regular Hershey's next, then Krakel and avoid the Mr. Goodbar as much as possible.
Someone lamented about miniatures of 3 Musketeers and Twix, and all I can say, is that you need to look closer in the bag candy section. M&M/Mars calls their miniature line "Fun Size" or "Fun Bars" instead of "miniatures." My other half came home with a combo bag of Fun size Snickers, Twix and plain M&M's the other day. There are also two different small sizes of Snickers, Milky Way and 3 Musketeers, so check the contents carefully.
Has anyone tried the new "Chewy 3 Musketeers"? It looks like a flat Jolly Rancher Stix, but it's otherwise hard to describe. It's got qualities of chocolate, caramel, and taffy. It's almost like a 3M bar got run over by a steamroller. The one I found was at a convenience store for around 25 cents.

Is that like the candy version of smart-drinks? ;)
Once again, I've proven to be the gay twin of Ken... I don't like nuts in my chocolate, and I DEFINITELY don't like dark. I only eat it when I'm especially desperate. I'm not a big candy eater, except I do love chocolate. Just plain milk chocolate is generally my favorite, but I also like crunch/krackel, mounds (in which the dark shell is ok, because the inside is sweet enough to off-set it), twix, peanut butter cups, and some others I'm probably forgetting.
Cadburry Dairy Milk chocolate is one of my favorites. In high school, that was one of my treats... I got a couple of the big bars a week. Every day I'd come home from school and eat several rows off of a bar along with a LOT of milk. The Cadburrys with the caramel in the middle are good to. Although I like the eggs just for the chocolate, the inside is really too sweet. Ghiradelli makes good chocolate too.

Now THIS is what I'm talking about! I had never had good milk chocolate until I went to South Africa several years ago. They got imports of Cadbury stuff from the U.K., and man, was that stuff fantastic! Puts the Hersheys and Nestles (well the stuff we get in the States, anyway) completely to shame. I've heard folks say that the Cadbury we get over here is not quite the same, though it's still pretty good.

Special Dark is my favorite, followed by Mr. Goodbar.
I can eat maybe 1 or 2 of the plain Hershey's, but they really need to be cut with something to cut down on the sweetness. I wish that in the variety bag they would put Hershey with Almonds instead of just plain Hershey.
I don't like Krackels. I'll send those in for Special Dark or Mr. Goodbar in the exchange program. :)
