SPEED gives up on same-day WRC Rally coverage

I knew the season was about to start, so I was confused when my Wishlist SP for the WRC (World Rally Championship) only had one entry -- next Thursday at 7 PM Eastern, for 2 hours. So I went and checked on the Speed TV site (www.speedtv.com), and confirmed it -- Speed will no longer provide same-day (or even same-weekend) coverage of the WRC. Instead, they will broadcast a 2 hour show on Thursdays, covering all three days of the previous weekend's rally. There will be a Rally XS show on Sundays as well.

I'm not quite sure what to think about this. The following Thursdays? Sheesh. Good thing I don't normally watch anything in prime-time on Thursday nights.

EDIT: I went back to the site and copied the complete list of days and times. Some will be at 9 PM Eastern -- apparently when there's something 'live' earlier in the day, and one will be on a Sunday.

:( ...and so completes the transition into the Nascar Network. I'm really sad that it's going back to the post week wrap-up coverage. <sniff>

Oh, but everyone can watch Nascar until they have an embolism though. Apparently people can't get enough of driving in circles.

How about that Dakar show, that was pretty good considering the logistics and sheer numbers of competitors spread all over everything. I just about couldn't take the host for one more night, but some of the copter shots were amazing. Even got my wife and kids to sit and watch it with me, first time we've ever watched any form of auto racing together. Mind blowing that they are doing over 100mph on those bikes, living on the ragged edge of disaster for 2 weeks straight.

I know this is off topic, but the Speed channel has piqued our interest.....

Dakar coverage was decent but a shame we could not get more. FYI - Eurosport was showing full hour reviews.

Thanks for the heads up on the reduced WRC season coverage. That's a downer.

Bad Speed Channel, Bad.

If you have something scheduled during prime time, it is rebroadcast at like midnight or 1AM as well, thats when my TiVo is picking it up.

I have no idea if this will do any good, nor do I see how it can hurt.

I signed it. I loved the same day coverage, it really kept you in suspense over the weekend. I'm hoping the Ford team can be competitive without the old timers.
