Ok, after guessing that my HD was busted, I got a new one.

I found the image file for my Sat-T60 from a reliable source.

I loaded that file onto the new hard drive successfully. But when i try to boot my tivo, it is on Powering Up then resets!!!

I have been working on this for days now and finally broke down and bought a new HD, but its still messed up!

Please help me!

(Im me on AOL or Yahoo too, username is npc7177)

What exactly did you do to "load that file" onto your hard drive?

Have you checked the new drive with a utility?

When you did the restore, did mfstools report an accurate number (for a standalone) for the capacity of the drive?

I followed hinsdale's instructions for Restoring a drive. I took the tivo.bak file from my PC's C' drive and it successfully loaded onto my brand new Western Digital 60 GB drive. It gave me a no errors report and it said that the new drive has 57 hours of recording time.

I haven't checked the new drive with a utilty, since i had no errors when it loaded. What utilty should i use? What if it reports an error, did I get a bad HD from CompuSA?

Is this the unit from another thread that was sent to Sony for service and came back nonfunctional? If so, the problem may not have been the HD as I posted in the other thread.

What was the problem for which it was sent back to be serviced?

If I have you confuse with someone else, please ignore this message.

Yes, CClaunch, you have the right guy.

The first time I sent it to Sony Service, i was convinced it was a problem with the motherboard. It booted up fine, recording things, but the Sat 1 input would not work, Sat 2 worked fine though.
They sent it back with a new hard drive (so they say.) Of course, it still had the same problem.

I sent it back again, explaining the situation. Now they replaced the motherboard. 2 weeks ago i finally got it back, plugged it in. It booted up fine, my wife put on SoapNet and BAMM! frozen. Nothign worked, so I had to uplug and plug back in.

After the Almsot there screen, it went to the receiving Satellite info screen and rebooted. Over and over. Sometimes it didn;t even reach the Sat info screen.

So thats where I stand. I bought a new HD and figured it would do the trick, but after following Hinsdale's restore instructions, the new HD reboots FASTER (it only nmakes it to the welcome screen)

At this point, my first attempt would be to eliminate the IDE cable as a potential problem by replacing it with a different one. That will also validate that the contacts are fine where the cable plugs into the MB. This is an area that can get loosened causing problems such as you reported.

If that fails, it might be time to approach some of our members that do repairs (and have an excellent record) to at least see what they think. I am thinking of electriclegs, for example. Something is wrong and it is not that likely that it is just a string of failed HDs, although that is not totally impossible, just unlikely.
