GSOD powerup loop

My HDR212 that I added a 100GB drive to about a year ago has been doing the reboot powerup loop, and then GSOD and will run for a while and then do it all over again.

I looked at the log files and it seems to be an error reading/writing to the disk that I added.

People have mentioned using PowerMax to do drive diagnostics, I'm going to try that this weekend but I have a few questions.

If it is the disk (I'm pretty sure it is) can PowerMax fix it with out having to reformat the drive? If it can't is there another util that can? I have a lot of recordings that I would rather not lose.

Is there a walkthrough for fixing drives with this problem or is Powermax pretty easy to use.

Thanks

Unfortunately, if the drive is defective the recordings are probably lost. PowerMax will tell you if it's good or not, but won't be able to fix it.
