Just when you thought it was safe to watch Futurama

With the football season over after the Superbowl I thought I could finally watch Futurama on a weekly basis without it being pre-empted by a late game. But according to guide data there will be a double dose of King of the Hill on Feb. 2 at 7 and 7:30pm eastern time. Too bad. :(

If you have Cartoon Network, you can get a daily dose of Futurama.

I think that its kinda funny that CN shows a disclaimer with Futurama... don't think that Fox ever did.

I think Fox runs a disclaimer about 3 in the morning warning that ALL of their programming is unsuitable for children! Remember what Marge said to Homer in the Simpsons episode where Lisa saw herself in the future coming home with her fiance?

"You know, it was so subtle that I never really noticed when Fox became the all-porn network!"

I'm just glad that SOMEBODY was smart enough to snatch up Futurama and run with it. It's getting pretty good ratings, too! Hooray for Cartoon Network! Now, out of the pool, kids!

The warning is mostly just a generic characteristic of 'Adult Swim' (Cartoon Network's set of shows geared to an older audience). I doubt it's a requirement or anything, but they probably do it as a precaution since the CN audience is young.. well mostly anyway :) .

They've done a great job with the interstitials. Bender doing CPR. What a hoot.

For current Futurama news: http://www.gotfuturama.com/

Sun 26th: No Futurama (Independence Day)
Sun 02nd: No Futurama (King of the Hills repeat)
Sun 09th: No Futurama (King of the Hills repeat)

I'm about to code some automatic "no Futurama" posting bot. This is getting tedious. Don't expect any Futurama on the other two Sundays in February either. 5 more pre-emptions after the 9th of February and we won't see all episodes this season.

<All of the above and below is from the page. >

That means, if we assert that FOX airs Futurama every week after these three Sundays (ha!), the last episode would air on April the 20th. 6 more pre-emptions and the last episode won't make it this season. Average pre-emption amount in past years was about 4 times when not holding the early season end last year against them.

<Reading the message boards there, it seems that with a couple more pre-emptions, FOX either won't air the few episodes it has left or CARTOON NETWORK will get the opportunity to air NEW (first-run) episodes that have never aired on FOX, or the very remote chance that FOX will re-hire new people to create more FUTURAMA episodes, which at presently, is only a pipe dream.>

Did you pause and read the instructions? ;)

The warning is shown before each "Adult Swim" show, btw.

Yep. Love doing that.

I'm surprised at how dirty and sexual those early Futuramas were. I had forgotten that.

I didn't realize that I had missed so many early episodes. Must have been in my pre-TiVo days. So it's been a real treat catching 'new' episodes on a daily basis :D

Skipping commercials on this show is tricky, cuz they show a "tomorrow on futurama" clip during a break, making it hard to tell if you're skipping into the actual program or not.

Edit: I missed the entire first season originally. It's nice to finally discover the whole premise of the show.

Forgive me for being EXTREMELY confused, but this makes no sense to me whatsoever. Who decided that the season had to end on a particular date? I can tell you for a fact that not every show ends its season during the same week. As anxious as I am to see new episodes, what's to stop them from extending the Futurama season into June or even July if necessary? Is this some kind of unwritten law or something?

Bob

Because no one watches TV during June/July...

Anyhow, the Futurama season is typically short - I believe it's a lot lower than the average 24 episodes a season (which runs longer because of reruns).

Season 1: 13 episodes
Season 2: 15 episodes
Season 3: 17 episodes
Season 4: 12 episodes
Season 5: 5 episodes (current)
- Total: 62. Left to show are 10 (Fox purchased 72 episodes). Most likely we'll see them aired this season, since they don't have any more to make up a new season...
