New shows.... is TV currently as bad for you?

There seems nothing new on television that I want to watch. Last season we were blessed with a multitude of diaper dandys.... Alias, The Shield, 24, Dead Zone, Monk etc. I know many of these didn't premiere until later in the year, but so far there is very little. I know... I know... Firefly, but that's gone. I don't like Boomtown... don't like John Doe. There really is very little that remotely interests me. I mean the excitement on this forum seemed to come from a show like Do Over. In fact CURRENTLY... the only shows I look forward to are 24/Alias/Shield.

Anybody else feel this way or is it just me?

I TOTALLY AGREE ...

I tried to give Veritas a shot .. but so far NO GOOD!!!

The only one that is left that may be good <to me> is KINGPIN!!!
Im TiVo'ing the Bravo episodes only though.

That's the trouble with owning TiVos. After about three years with them, I've caught up on all the old shows I missed in my youth. Now, I'm falling into the same "nothin' on TV" pit you mentioned. I've got an ARWL on the keyword "PILOT" to find any new shows, and I've set up ARWLs on the categories SCIENCE and HISTORY. Those documentary-type shows are OK. But, for entertainment, most everything sucks.

From the last year, Firefly was the best of the lot (and it's gone). Surprisingly, I like 8 Simple Rules. Monk was good at the begining but slipped to the point that I probably won't watch a new season (if they have one). Less Than Perfect is pretty trite and one-dimensional, but it's tolerable. Once I get caught up on all the old reruns of Stargate SG-1 and they kill the series off (this year?), I don't know what I'll do.

WTH is a "diaper dandy"?!?

Posted by: richNYC

I think Dick Vitale coined that term. A diaper dandy is a freshman ("diaper") college basketaball player that is playing really well and shows lots of promise ("dandy").

Good new shows...

Firefly - gone
Robbery Homicide Division - actually just sorta OK but gone
Boomtown - great show
American Dream - wife likes it
Without a Trace - OK, wife likes it

Pretty short list

Of the freshman shows this season, I'd say John Doe is the only one I'm still watching. I'm also watching more game shows than usual with Cram and Taboo being very new and Pyramid being revived earlier this season.

I am still watching 6 new shows: American Dreams, Boomtown, Everwood, CSI: Miami, Good Morning Miami, and John Doe. The others I was watching have been cancelled (Firefly, Push Nevada, Presidio Med). I set up a season pass for Kingpin, as well, but that hasn't started. :)

Try "Miracles"...I thought is was eerily fantastic. It has an Exorcist kind of feel and if you are a horror movie buff, you will like the cinematography.

I was watching Birds of Prey. :( Basically there's only a couple of really good shows, a number of "B" grade shows that I record but let them get deleted more often than not, and several older shows that I haven't seen in a long time. The new season is disappointing!

I tried Birds of Prey and Firefly but gave up before they were cancelled. I'm now not watching a single new show from this season. I've been catching up on reruns of The Practice and Ally McBeal though.

New shows I am watching include John Doe, Boomtown, and the departed Firefly.

I was still watching CSI: Miami but The first episode of Miracles convinced me to switch and start recording it.

There are still so many shows I enjoy week after week that I do not have time to get hooked on too many new ones.

Do Over was very promising, but is now on 'Hiatus"
